Questions for New York members
I would like to go to a jewelry show in new york and it is located at the Jacob Javits convention center. Has anyone been to this center and how is the area? Would you have to take a cab every where or what is best (forgive me if it sounds odd asking this because in the mid west we drive everywhere and I've never been to new york ) Any info would be most helpful

$200 a night if its during the week. food is expensive. id take the subway not a taxi. taxi fares can get expensive where as 2 bucks get you anywhere in the city.

honestly there are no scary parts of manhattan anymore. anyone that thinks guilianni is too liberal should just come to NY and put to rest any stereotypes about it. Even harlem isnt harlem anymore. they are renovating the shit out of harlem...$1500 a month in harlem gets you a 400sq ft studio. bill clinton lives there for gods sake.

"Even with reductions in recent years, New York's 36,400- member police force is bigger than the four next-largest U.S. departments combined, and its 1,000-officer counter-terrorism division is larger than that of the FBI."

My buddy went up there a couple of times for modeling shoots and said it felt safe. He said there were police on every corner. I could make it a vacation/business trip The cost is holding me back right now, but I want to start going to shows and get more vendors.

If you are going to stay in manhattan then you should either take a cab or take the subway like Big louie said. This is my friends Hotel in Manhattan, his rates are good and it's a nice place close to everywhere.

Just curious, do you guys have a car or take public transit everywhere? I've heard your system is the best around. We have no real public transit in our area, every one drives every where. (you almost get run over if you walk)

if you live in the city...usually public trans is the way to go...but some people have cars...parking spots & prices are an issue. The javits area is real nice, I dont see you having any issues..the subway is not what they make it out to be on TV...its not pretty, but its good. just act like a NYer & you'll be fine...If you want...the NY crew will be your bodyguards
