WHO here Keeps a Training LOG
I always see guys at the gym writing down their each and every lift.
I don't really see the benefit. I mean I don't need some diary to tell me that I trained like sh*t last week.
So the question is WHY?
Who here has used one, and how has it helped?

Progress reports. So you can see what exercises are working better and improving your workouts. Also it helps to set goals (i.e. if I benched x amount 5 times week 1, I would want to make sure in the next coming weeks my lifts improved).

if you're serious about this game then keep a journal

I have been keeping track of what I've done since I started lifting during 2000. Started writing it down here to be critiqued in the workout forum last april I think. Why?
1. So I know if my progress halts I can go back and see what has worked in the past
2. So I see real strength progress..without guessing what I did at that time
3. To get critique from others and share ideas

I keep two. One online and a notebook to work off. My online log is for my coach to give me guidance and track my progress. Training sessions in the gym are always planned. The weight and with what ease I lifted determine any increases for the next session.

Progress reports as one poster stated.
And also a backlog to compare what worked when you hit a wall.
Like for me my body changes with each contest prep.. It's good to have a window into last year or the year prior to know where to start.. and what should change.
Also when i hit a wall i can go back to something that worked previously and reincorporate it without having to 'feel tru'.

I write everything... How what i did felt. Modifications i made to diet; hand position; rep ranges.. justification for switches [in case i look back 1 year later and wonder why i chose a specific route.. so i can justify re-adding such to my routine]
etc.

I keep a log on here. But I dont really care for noting down all the weights, Im more interested in noting down diff excercises, dietry changes ect.

Never felt the need for a log Id only lose it like I do half the other stuff out of my gym bag, besides I remember most things pretty well, progress at least in my case is quarterly unless of course Im on gear so its not an awful lot to remember

i kept one for awhile, no benefit for me. the comment above regarding being serious is bullshit. i, along with nearly everybody here are very serious about bodybuilding/powerlifting/fitness, and i can gaurantee that more than half of us dont keep logs

-
