Need a googlemaster for the freezing point of OJ
Ok I have 3 gallons of OJ i bought on sale outside on the porch. (im an oj addict btw)
My question is.. and the winner will win a.... well... you'll win a new FACT!!!lol
I know its not really that exciting but..
WHAT IS THE FREEZING POINT OF OJ?
I was in my house and saw the weathermen on tv sayins its 7 degrees outside and i thought "oh shiiit!!!! the oj!!!!!!!!!!!!!" So I ran outside and its not even slushy. I was always good at chemistry but I cant figure this out and googles not helping. It cant be salt, and sugar drinks get slushy, so why is it still completeley liquid? And its been outside for like 8 or 9 hours now fyi.

having a 3 gallon jug of oj will take a while to freeze. It takes around 32 F but less since it has more molecules and since temp will drop very slowly, will take a while

its mostly water, will be the same as water i'd imagine...a large jug will take some time

But you may still have a valid point about the volume thing, if only in increments of a gallon. Its just one of those things man must know in life before he dies I suppose.

The ascorbic acid in OJ will reduce the freezing point, as will the dissolved sugars and there will be a small percentage of various salts in there too!
I use a sub-zero fridge to keep my water and juices in, it sits at 0°C normally (32°F) but during my last DNP cycle i turned it down to -4°C and the OJ was just about still liquid then, so I'm gonna go with about -°5C or -°6C.

Listed in a patent for "Process of preparing frozen juice product" orange juice freezes at about 27 degrees F.

plastic should stretch a little bit, but a gallons worth of liquid freezing might be too much pressure, im not sure.
