I'm looking for suggestions on a family vacation in American for next summer.
We normally take our family vacation in Europe every summer, we're Irish born and breed. but we've been thinking of America as a holiday destination for next summer, however it's hard finding information here on family packages from our travel agents here in Ireland. We're both mid 30's and the children will be 8 and 11 next summer. As anyone here with young children will know only too well it's paramount the children be entertained night and day, but I wouldn't for a moment consider Disneyland.
So any suggestions guys ?

Quick plug for Colorado. 36 here with 2 kids 8, 13 so I understand the keeping the kids busy is paramount. You could start in colorado springs where a visit to the Cave of the Winds will impress you and the kids. They also have a fun amusement park called Santas Workshop with a Christmas theme to it. Next I would drive up into the mountains and schedule some white water rafting. They have some cool all day packages (for the family) with lunch included. Next, off to Winterpark to enjoy some horseback riding (yes they have ponies for the kids) and a trip down the 3000 foot alpine slide. From there you could go to the hot springs in Glenwood Springs and relax in a pool literally built around a real underground spring (warm and soothing). You would probably need at least 1 maybe 2 weeks to fully appreciate this lovely state. Gotta love Colorado!!!!!

I think the most impressive place for you to go would have to be Vegas, but since you got the kids with you that won't work. Its not the US but the bahamas are awasome. you can check out the Atlantis to stay at when your there. I heard Myrtel beach, North Carolina is great. If its summer when your going away I'd have to be on the beach everyday.

Vegas is a great place for kids but I wouldn't go there for a family vacation. I don't what you're family is like but you probably don't want to get shit faced and stay up all night while worrying about your kids so don't go to Vegas.
Myrtle Beach is nice, I'm going there on Wed. It's in South Carolina BTW.

If I were you I would goto one of those beach resorts and enjoy that sun and drinks on the beach or around the pool. Play some golf, jetski, parasailing and all that good stuff.

I enjoyed a trip to San Diego when I was a kid. Its got everything you need. The kids would like Sea World and the San Diego Zoo. The weather is beautiful and the Mexi-Cal culture is a great experience.

Maybe a little fishing and takin it easy in Minnesota, go up north and get a cabin and stay on a lake, or better yet, you could stay on the white fish chain, it is like 20 lakes connected, I hear that Tom Cruze has a cabin up there..Been there, if you like fishing and relaxing in a woody small town atmospher.

Cali- Sea World, Dizzneeland, Six Flags, about a thousand water parks including Raging waters which is a blast. Right next to TJ...
AZ- Grand Canyon, Tombstone, Downtown, Nightlife, Rivers, Lakes, all the desert you can handle, also...right next to Nogales
Montana-wait....nevermind you said you wanted to have fun right?
Texas would be a hot spot to go...also right next to MX border lol...see where I'm going here. jk
Florida would be killer as well.
Hey...why not take them to Toronto, Niagra Falls, Clean air, Vince Carter, Can Wonderland, spectro.
Bro, there are lot of places to keep you entertained.

A-ha everythings on hold now, I've just volunteered for SFOR or KFOR, which for the civilians out there is Bosnia or Kosovo, I'm also looking at a return to Lebanon (man I love Israel, just accross the border), but thats looking unlikely now as my previous missions there have been infantry and I may not have the specialist experience required for the next mission in UNIFIL HQ.
Time will tell.
