NIN only affected a SMALL crowd, Nirvana impacted a MUCH LARGER group. Hands down, no contest, Nirvana is the best grunge band. Done.

schmidty you really havent got a clue have you.
im guessing your quite young, i however was around in the grunge explosion and it is still my preffered music.
rhcp sold out big style, they perform at crappy mainstream music festivals infront of kids who are just into pop music. every single reaches the charts.
nirvana changed the direction of rock music back then.
if by go listen to teen spirit you are making a comment that its pop, may i point out to you that it was infact the first song like that. sure it may have had that commercial feel, but nirvana never wrote anything like that again. the albums released after went in different directions.
unlike rhcp who seem to get worse and worse.
mtv moves with the times, it is now more likely to be playing rhcp as it is commercial.
just like kerrang.

Im not saying that RHCP are more grunge then Nirvana, Im saying that Nirvan is over rated and their were other bands Like RHCP and NIN that put the Nails in the coffins of the hair bands

i think the legacy nirvana / cobain left speaks for itself.
as for "killing off hair bands" just shows how easily people fold to new fashions and trends. im sure the people with a real passion for that music genre werent so easily lead.
i for example didnt follow the nu-metal scene ( however some good has come from it) and definately wont be following this emo shit

i wouldnt even class rhcp as a grunge band, but as a pop / rock band. they are too inconsitent with their material to be categoriesed within such a label.

See I would defend NIN and Chili Peppers till the day I die because they are sum of my favorite bands. But every band that has ever made it big has been acused at one point in time of being sell outs

The one band that TOPS THEM ALL is THE CRASH TEST DUMMYSLOL
-

Maybe Nirvan left a bigger impact on the world but without NIN Nirvana would not have come around. And when Nirvana was around the Chili Peppers had like 2albums at the most and had not yet had a chance to sell out

you can't compare a highly original industrial band like NIN to nirvana, which was basically a more polished version of a group like the meat puppets or pixies. NIN is a much more developed concept, much musically and artistically.

we arent actually comparing anything, i dont what we are actually doing.
apart from me showing that im anal about nirvana, ive been researching them for about 15 years. read every article every book collected every bootleg. etc

who is the best grunge band is nothing more than opinions whether you know nothing about music or if you have alot of knowlege (or just think you do) but there is no question that nirvana is the BIGGEST grunge band and had the most impact on music but you guy's in your early or mid 20's can't possibly know that because you didn't see the effect they made on music and how it changed because of them. i remember the style of clothing people wore changed that's how big they were. from what i remember nirvana, alice in chains and pearl jam were the big 3. there were many good bands that hit it big in the early 90's.
