if you want to be realistic, any one who says a 250cc sports bike isnt fast enough for a first bike is stupid. 250s still fly.

R6 was and still is my first bike i love it but now i want something abit quicker.. thinking of getting the new R1 this year!

Rode my brother's 06 R1, pretty quick. It's a lot of bike compared to the R6, but once you hop on you wont wanna get off.

my first crutch lol paid 1200$ for that beast was an 89 fzr 600 and in all honesty surprised the hell out of me. geared it high so i had alot of top end couldnt walk it for shit tho hit second gear and it would come down but still great/cheap starter bike

If youve never been on offroad/road toys before then id suggest a sport/touring style. go with something with a slighter longer wheel base.
ive been on 4 wheelers/jet skiis my whole life so i was very comfortable getting a 600 ninja. i bought this on saturday...
