A used Toyota Echo, or its replacement, the Yaris
http://www.toyota.com/yaris/exterior.html
The Echo was a good, reliable car, but kinda funky, and didn't get good reviews because of it. They did some redesigning, came up with the Yaris, and it gets much better reviews. Buy one of these, keep the fluids changed when they need to be changed, and it'll last you 200,000 miles, no problem.
Base price for a liftback is around $11k.
But if you want real cheap, get yourself a 1995 Geo Metro. I had one with a 3 cylindar engine, and the only thing that went wrong with it in 95,000 miles was the waterpump -- cost $200 to replace at the dealer. Some idiot ran into the back end at 95k miles, and I traded what was left on my S10 pickup.
Anyway, a good used one should be mega-cheap. It's the same as a Suzuki, parts shouldn't be too hard to come by.Last edited by Tock; 02-19-2007 at 09:11 PM.

I have a VW Jetta 5-speed for when I'm driving a long distance or lots of miles throughout the day. Great gas mileage and it still has some decent speed to it.

Those nissan pickups they had back in the 90's were great till they redesigned them and jacked up the price tag.

doesn't it bother anyone that outsourcing and buying foreign vehicles is going to demolish the american automotive industry ? I have 8 family members who work for ford and GM who all may be out of jobs in the near future along with thouussanddss of other automotive workers.

No, because the ceo's have fuked all of us I damn near went broke fuking with american cars. I could list all the models and the shlt that's went wrong with them but I have done this before and it just pisses me off I use to be pro american and crap but after getting fuked so many times I just say buy honda and actually use the damn thing Hate to burst anyones bubble but the japanese have beat the shlt out of us by building stuff that actually last. We just throw shlt out there, even kill a bunch of people trying to use the pieces of shlt. Example: ford explorer with the tire problems, ford police cars, cops get hit from behind and the damn things blow up!! I know of at least 3 cases, it got so bad that they had hearings on the subject. wtf? I have to calm down now!!!!

Whats with everybody liking the IMPORTS !?!? The price to pay for any part is ten times as much as a domestic, as is the insurance, A nice Camaro, or mustang, Trans Am, etc. I love em. Always treated me well, and I live in CANADA with minus 30 and colder all winter, any import will break here. If your just looking for a deent run around car, a cavalier, or a sunfire , they are a decent car tool. And people think that imports are better built, that is a thing of the past. Ford is now the #1 selling copany in north america.
