Honda Civic. 30+ MPG, inexpensive and will last a lifetime.
A used Toyota Echo, or its replacement, the Yaris
http://www.toyota.com/yaris/exterior.html
The Echo was a good, reliable car, but kinda funky, and didn't get good reviews because of it. They did some redesigning, came up with the Yaris, and it gets much better reviews. Buy one of these, keep the fluids changed when they need to be changed, and it'll last you 200,000 miles, no problem.
Base price for a liftback is around $11k.
But if you want real cheap, get yourself a 1995 Geo Metro. I had one with a 3 cylindar engine, and the only thing that went wrong with it in 95,000 miles was the waterpump -- cost $200 to replace at the dealer. Some idiot ran into the back end at 95k miles, and I traded what was left on my S10 pickup.
Anyway, a good used one should be mega-cheap. It's the same as a Suzuki, parts shouldn't be too hard to come by.

What do you think of toyota corolla? Isn´t that an economic car?Originally Posted by JAYROD
I want to have an economic car because I have thought about going to school/college and I have to borrow money for 4 - 5 years if I don´t have time with a job when I´m studying. Then when I´m done with school and have gotten a good job I can buy a bigger car.

I have a VW Jetta 5-speed for when I'm driving a long distance or lots of miles throughout the day. Great gas mileage and it still has some decent speed to it.

American cars suckI spent 100's of thousands in my life on the pieces of shlt if you added up all the cars I've owned

Those nissan pickups they had back in the 90's were great till they redesigned them and jacked up the price tag.
because they are pieces of shit......ugly......underpowered....do they even make anything with a V8? psh come on.....give me ford power over that crap any day....and fords aren't junk.....my family has two with over 230,000 miles, both broncos, a ranger with 170,000 and a van with 185,000.....and all run fine still....if people just do maintenance like they're supposed to the american cars kick ass......**** you toyota........Originally Posted by bigeater

ok....so the escort and the F150 should easily go for 250,000 a piece.....F150 you may have a tranny issue depending on the year, but not till at least 200,000..........the explorer i dunno....depends alot on the year....i never did really like them anyway.....too smallOriginally Posted by goodcents
i beg to differ.....toyota uses hardly any real metal in their vehicles in my experience and also they don't sell parts like the rear view mirror assembly in pieces......so if your one ball joint breaks on the mirror you get to buy a whole new 500 dollar mirror......and yes the bastard we broke did cost that ( we had to haul one of the POS's once and like 10 things broke when it was on the truck.....not like we did anything wrong either.....secured it just like you do any car.....but it's such a joke of a vehicle that it couldn't handle it.......and if you're going to buy a truck that's not a compact why in hell would you go anywhere near anything but a superduty??????????Originally Posted by JAYROD
i like the corolla also and they are very economical. it would be a good choice.Originally Posted by bigeater
rofl.....we actually saw one of those one time in st. louis on the road.....we were in the Excursion and if we got in an accident with it.....even a small one.....i'm 100% sure the guy would have died.....even a rear end goin like 5-10 mph would do one of these things in.Originally Posted by DSM4Life
vehicle parts break, it's that simple. my rear view mirror on my '98 ranger is broken but does that mean fords are junk? i drive camry's and avalon's off the final assembly line all day long and i assure they are very nicely built vehicle's with plenty of power and handle great and the fact is they outlast most auto's on the road. and i most certainly agree with you on the truck. my trucks have always been ford powered and they always will.Originally Posted by RuhlFreak55

doesn't it bother anyone that outsourcing and buying foreign vehicles is going to demolish the american automotive industry ? I have 8 family members who work for ford and GM who all may be out of jobs in the near future along with thouussanddss of other automotive workers.
another reason to buy ford and NOT toyotaOriginally Posted by Pro_built7

I use to be pro american and crap but after getting fuked so many times I just say buy honda and actually use the damn thing
Hate to burst anyones bubble but the japanese have beat the shlt out of us by building stuff that actually last. We just throw shlt out there, even kill a bunch of people trying to use the pieces of shlt. Example: ford explorer with the tire problems, ford police cars, cops get hit from behind and the damn things blow up!! I know of at least 3 cases, it got so bad that they had hearings on the subject. wtf? I have to calm down now!!!!

I held in there as long as I could but I had to finally see that the japanese build quality shlt
I feel for the workers, it's the ceo's that build shlt to break down so they can yet again fuk us when we have to buy parts

the foreign bastards build shit to break as well.....see rear view mirror that spontaneously combusted above.......and wtf.....my family has owned over 20 fords and never had a problem that ended the life of the vehicle.....something breaks you fix it and build it up better......maybe you use shops??? cause shops when they fix something set up like 5 other things to break....i'm 95% sure of this....i don't let anyone work on my trucks but me nowOriginally Posted by goodcents

Whats with everybody liking the IMPORTS !?!? The price to pay for any part is ten times as much as a domestic, as is the insurance, A nice Camaro, or mustang, Trans Am, etc. I love em. Always treated me well, and I live in CANADA with minus 30 and colder all winter, any import will break here. If your just looking for a deent run around car, a cavalier, or a sunfire , they are a decent car tool. And people think that imports are better built, that is a thing of the past. Ford is now the #1 selling copany in north america.
I see like 10 or so of these ugly imbarrasment of a vehicle everyday. It is called the "smart" car, built by mercedes believe it or not. its really cheap, 21000 canadian so less than 20000 U.S. and they run on a 70 hp deisel, sounds like a sick rotweiler if you ask me, and gets over 70 mpg, and tops out at 120 kph, so 70 MPH. 2 seater target on wheels. ugly as sin.Originally Posted by DSM4Life
