movies onto dvd disc

when i try and put a movie that i have downloaded onto a blank dvd the process get right to the end then encounters some kind of failure and says burning failed....do i need to convert the avi movie into dvd format first before i start to burn the movie to a dvd disk?
i want the movie to play on my dvd player downstairs

try using nero 7 it really easy to use and it converts to dvd format automatically

nero doesn't convert avi to dvd automatically. Nero vision does

nevermind did it now using "convertxtodvd"
wish it didnt take so bloody long though!!!
