Thread: Out of commission again.

Out of commission again.
Ironic how simply things happen.
Yesterday i skipped the gym..and went to the beach.
There i played American Football for a couple hours... swam for about an hour..and sparred (Mixed styles: street) for about 1/2 hour.
During Football i blocked and tackled alot... A lot of flying tackles and full contact blows... I walk away from it, probably the only of my bros who didn't get hurt yesterday.
The other team drafted some HUGE off-duty life-guards onto their team because we were kicking their asses. One of the guys was like 250, really fast...and hella strong. I think still have some sand between my teeth from the number of times he knocked me face flat.
Anyway..no injuries.
On to swimming.
Swimming normally leaves my joints feeling like shit.. because (i think),
weightlessness causes fluid to pool in my joints..which makes 'em ache. Yesterday..nothing.
On to sparring.
Sparred with this guy.. a black belt. He was like 25-30% lighter than myself..so i didn't 'strike' him. He's a friend of mine...and i know he couldn't take any blow from me which connected..without injury. It was open palm sparring. I mostly blocked his blows when he got in close...deflected and grappled. Because i deemed that safer for him. No injury.
When i was done all this.. I walk away from my last take down leaving him on the ground. Backing him i took stance, and let loose an arc kick..just a practise kick (i use these and front splits to stretch the groin/ham area) ... When my leg was at full extension, my supporting leg buckled. It was a loud crunching noise...and i ended up on the floor.
My knee cap on the planted foot had dislocated completely. It was sitting on outside of my lef knee (left side). It felt like if i had been hit by a baseball bat. It didn't feel like it 'just slipped'. It felt like if it had been forced out. I was laying on the sand...and i had to sit up and jam it back in..and watch it swell.
I've gotta see a sports doc on Saturday. Can't get to one before then.
Hope it doesn't come to surgery.
But I don't get it though.
Yea.. i know: I'm at 200 lbs @ 5'6" so i know that it was a lot of weight on a quasi-vulnerable area.
What i don't get is...how could it not have happened during football... or
sparring.. but after.. by myself?
During the 'fight' i used the reverse arc and axe fairly regularly.
Bleh
Can't walk. Can't roll. Showering was a bitch! And dressing even harder..cus i can't bend the knee at all.
I used some pain meds last night... only because one of my bros who was there advised it. I haven't used any since..because i don't use pain meds or anti-biotics.
I can't say i'm not tempted to down a handfull of whatever i find tho lol.
Anyway.. If y'all don't see me around that's why.
It took me 15 minutes to get to this pc.. and about 5 minutes to lower myself into this chair. Since i've been sitting i've lost circulation.. so i'm thinking sitting is out.
Back to bed.

I know how you feel man. Every single time i've thrown my back out, it was during something stupid, like putting socks on, or bending over to pick up a pen, and never during 500lb deadlits.

Do you think lifting is out of the question for a long ass time, or will you be able to do upper body movements?

Man, that's terrible. There's a guy who plays for the Los Angeles Clippers (Shaun Livingston) that recently experienced a very similar injury and he's going to be out for a few months. I sure hope that you're able to rebound quickly.

So... yea...that's it.
I can't walk at present.
I was using the crutches around the house.. by my patella is disengaged (floating).. so i can't put any weight on the leg.

..the entire situation that is.
Looking ahead to the end of the year.. and noting how i had my year planned.. and just how much being out of commission for a couple months would throw it all.
I am thankful though.
When i got home i did say a prayer of thanks... because honestly i know it could've been worse.
I am fairly heavy after all... and there could've been serious nerve impingement or paralysis.
*shrugs*
After i get the analysis done tomorrow.. i'll decide on a course of action.
I have 2 months of Adequan here..so i may run that to speed the recovery.
Maybe some igf as well.

I know you will bounce back in no-time buddy! Keep your head up
-
03-09-2007, 12:09 PM #18
that sucks the dirtiest ass ever. hope you bounce back in no time at all. this is the reason i dont often play sports besides wrestling. a polish guy at work challenged me to an arm wrestle last weekend, i suck at arm wrestles, and find they aggravate my elbow joint and forearm tendons. i did it either way, i won (HA!) and had no injuries, but imagine how pissed id be if that stupid little stunt had messed my training up? about as pissed as you right now.
get well soon brother

recovery and muscle development after injury can be as crutial to body building as our normal life style..
good luck..The answer to your every question

Sorry to hear but you have to be more careful.
All of the things you said you did I would not have done due to the fact I could get injured. I always ask myself before I do something "Will this get me big?" If the answer is no, DON'T DO IT!If you plan to continue competing you have to think whether or not something will stop you from training.

Well, I love playing sports as well and play hockey. I get hurt all the time, just in the last 3 weeks I fractured my hand(right) and last week I fractured my foot(ankle) but I love playing and that is the oppurtunity cost of playing a physical sport, yet I always hope my training wont be sacrificed.
I'll keep playing nonetheless and training as much as I can.

Hey big C. Sorry to hear bout that. I know how it feels. I have dislocated my left patella 4 times. So if you need ANY advice or jus wanna talk bout it you know where to find me.
As most people know I have been dealin with a lot of person shit recently and not on here as much. Well jus like you I added another ding to the list. I was training last night and completely dislocated my shoulder, I am already seeing a surgeon for the other shoulder. Sometimes I think WHY ME? Bad things always seem to keep coming and comin at the same time.
Hang in there brother and like I said you know how to get a hold of me if you need anything.

Thanks for the good words guys.
I'm scheduled to see an orthopedic specialist in the a.m.
Hopefully it won't require surgery.
I had a severely dislocated shoulder some years back that they said required the surgical insertion of a pin. I refused...and it healed on its own..no rehab.
I'm hoping this this follows suit.
