Getting a hair transplant in 10 days!
Yep hairloss is what initially got me into theis foruma few years back, i was having a thinning hairline at age 23 i really hated it, it didnt recede it just got thinner in the fringe area and i didnt like that, i used propecia and nizoral 2% for a long time and it really didnt do much for that front area, the thinning stopped but i couldnt reverse it i'm 27 this year and things got better financially a little bit plus i have a month off so i decided to go for it!!
I had consulted with Bosely and Nuhair and i didnt like their suggestions because they never did younger looking hairlines they only prefered "maturing" hairlines which basically means they keep the forehead big and start further back. Its a cosmetic procedure so i preferred to get it done my way and not how they saw suitable.
I kept looking around and then found Alviarmani, i liked alot of the before and after pics, they are more recent and i like the hairlines he did for many of the younger guys, i talked to them and i was happy with what they suggested because they basically will re-construct my hairline to have it like back when i was in highschool!! Screw the mature look we are closing the receding temples!
The procedure i opted for for a little extra money is called FUE, it basically means they will extract each hair by itself as opposed to using the "cutting a strip of skin off method" . This FUE method will mean no scars at all, faster healing of the donor area and nobody will be able to tell anything happened there. We are doing 2500 grafts which is alot i thought i would need alot less because its only thinning i'm not bald yet, but they promised every graft will grow and it will be extremly thick hairline once it grows out in 3+months.
For those of you interested in doing such a procedure i must tell u to ask about the pre/post op instructions because there is alot alot of care needed its not as simple as they make it seem in commercials, u basically cant even touch the areas operated on for a month after!! and a crusty layer of scabs will form which takes up to 3 weeks to fall off, and you cant wear a hat to cover them, so u will be hiding at home for a while!! But if the results are as good and as permanent as they say then its worth it for me!!
I wanted to start a log but i was afraid it will get pushed down in the next 3-6months so i will just wait for it to grow out and then show all the pics before and after and keep u guys updated!! Dr.Armani himself will be doing the procedure for me so it costs me twice as much!! for those wondering i checked all places and transplants range from 2.5-5 dollars a graft for the first 3000 grafts, then u get discounts after that. A few years back i never thought i would ever spend this much on a cosmetic procedure but i was shocked to see my old fashioned manager get his hair done and he went from shiny bald to normal looking hair!! His looked so natural eventhough he only had very little donor hair!!
Wish me luck, i'm gonna have genetically DHT-Resistant hair!!!

Sweet man.
I'm really interested in how it goes. If you did a log that would be awesome, I would be in there very often.
I'm 20 myself..my hair started going back naturally when I was 17..My hairline is pretty high right now. Basically to cope with it I keep my hair Really long to cover my hairline. Right now my hair goes over my eyes almost...
I talked with Bosley as well and had them send the informational packets in the mail every so often. I also did not like that they seemed to work with older males..in the 40-60 range, rather than unlucky kids my age that lose their hair early.
My huge question was if the hair transplanted was DHT resistant, and it would never fall out, or if you would need additional surgeries to graft more fair. The procedure makes it sound like it would be DHT resistant, since you are taking hair from DHT resistant areas of the scalp in the back.
Mainly concerned about this because I expect to start probably 1-2 cycles up a year in the next year or so and my hair would be going nowhere but off my head
Fill me in, if you have anything you could send me please PM me, I'm very interested. Seeing how I live in Texas too, I would also be interested in where you are getting the procedure done...and how far of a drive that makes you take.....appreciate it

^^^^^ from what i have read the transplanted hair will not be prone to dht and as a result will not fall out.
kae, have you just lost hair from the front or elsewhere to.
they are working on ways to increase the donor area available, by placing a baloon under the skin and filling it. as it increases new skin is formed with hair follicles. yay

U have never done a cycle before and it was a tough choice for me wether to do one or not because i didnt want to lose hair faster in exchange for a few pounds of muscle, but then again somedays i would say screw the hair let me do a cycle...and then i'd back off.
The thing is i was given the bad hand when it came to genetics because i am a hard gainer with very thin long arms and legs, and without doing any cycles i was natrally very very hairy and then the hairlos in the head came and i was like damn i am so unlucky anything appearance related i am getting screwed with naturally and i havnt done a cycle yet!!
Last year i got three sessions of lazer hair removal done on my back and i loved the results so much thats when i decided i would never do a cycle! I just dont want to grow hair there again i like how shiny and smooth it is now, and now this year i was lucky enough to save up for this hair transplant so eventhough the transplanted hair is "more DHT resistant" i still dont want to test its limits and besides there is still alot of hair left that is DHT-sensitive so i dont want to lose that and be left with only a front hairline!!
Basically all that money invested plus my bad genetics plus a little incident with a friend of mine who almost lost both his kidneys this year have made me 1000%sure i dont want to cycle! I'll just gain a pound a year for the next 15 years, thats 15 pounds natural i'm happy with that!!
I'm from texas thats where i went to get my bosely consultations, but i am overseas now working in the oil company so the procedure i am getting in Dubai/UAE Dr.Armani visits all his locations 2-3 times a year so i'm catching him here.
I'm back in H-town for good this summer so i dont know where i'd have to go to find one of their locations in the states if i ever have to go back again. When i did the consultation they said they know its costly so they try to get it right the first time, but they just cant predict future hairloss in the non-transplanted (natural) areas so its all down to your genetics again.
I'm personally hoping that it holds for 10 years or so until they come up with something newer that is more affordable.
check it out http://www.alviarmanihairtransplants.com/ i found their results alot better and more updated than bosely.

I havent heard of the balloon procedure, but i heard of doctors removing half-hair grafts in hope of the other half regenerating and becoming a full donor hair again. It hasnt looked too promising yet because the half-graft when transplanted grows weak and the half-graft left in the donor might not regenrate so that leaves u with a weak donor and a weak transplant, thats a lose-lose when they should have just used the full graft.
Sorry if it makes people angry but i'm waiting on approval for stem cell because a doctor in holland already played around with taking one hair graft and cloning many more, that way they can take 100 and make 5000 in a lab maybe and then thats the cure for baldness!!

Thanks man you were a big help....
Only thing Im prone to is MPB..not prone to acne or anything. Grow pretty easily except my arms....Im not hairy at all. Oh well.
Hopefully he visits the U.S. one of these days and I can catch him there. For now I don't have that much $ so maybe it will be something I look to after college...

so u see the way he styles his hair now.. he pulls it forward to cover it a bit, i got into the same habit.. it looks decent, but it would get scary if the hairloss doubled in size, than we'll be SHIT!
before he spiked his hair. I spiked my hair a few times and it did look decent stilll lol but comb forward seems to work better..
It took me a good 3-4 months, to get used to it..
How bout u dbolz?
everymorning at first it used to look like shit.. when its all standing up, I was like ****!! now i seem to accept it fine thoughLast edited by Pooks; 04-15-2007 at 11:01 PM.

I'm not willing to do anything illegal in order to look good, i'm just throwing away my marrige fund and possibility to buy a new car so i can have more hair! hmm...when i put it this way i actually do feel bad now

My bf had the Bosley procedure twice already. He will be 29 in May. He has a HUGE scar across the back of his head from ear to ear, right where the bottom edge of a baseball cap lays. I wasn't with him when he had the first one done so I don't know how much it cost but the second one cost 10K and his head swelled up so bad I was freaking out. It took about a good month for it to go back 100% normal size.He looks great now! He takes Propecia and still juices his balls off so it's just a matter of time before he has another one done I'm sure. I know he would recommend it to anyone though so that's why I am responding to this thread! Good luck KAE! I'm sure you're going to be very happy!!!

The method i'm getting is different because they will remove each donor hair by itself! Its alot less pain and no scarring at all, after the surgery the back of my head will look like it has little holes in it but once they heal there will be no scar at all.

The recipient part however will be the same as your boyfriend they will make little pin size holes and put the donor hairs in them, i am afraid of the swelling part because we are wroking my hairline and the swelling will go down all my face. I am off work for 4 weeks so i really hope there is no swelling after that!! I dotn want to have to explain it to anyone there!

Kaew the swelling was pretty bad I don't want to scare you but it was alien-like. He couldn't even hide it under a baseball cap his head was HUGE and the hat wouldn't go on. Try a loose bandana if you have to run out. I'm glad to hear you will have 4 weeks off. Make sure you ice it as much as they tell you. That will help a little. Oh and the vic's helped even more! When is the surgery?

both my grandads both lost their hair at around 20 yrs so have all my uncles both sides, ronans and osullivans.my brothers hair is also very thin and hes 26.
im 33 and have a good head of hair and thats also after 6 months of heavy chemo.
so im always paranoid about losing my hair,i used to have it shaved when i was boxing but knew it would grow back but i think if i did now it may not grow as full as it is now.
think i would prob do something like the same as you, really hope it all works out.

too late u already scared me!! but no backing off now, i'm scheduled for the 26 and 27th this month, its actually the 26th but they booked the extra day just to be safe incase they cant get it all done in one day. Its 2500 grafts which should be doable in one day but a really long session. Ofcourse when they tell u what to expect they tell u its just a little swelling and it goes in "a few days" and they will give me pills prednisone for swelling. My brothers friend got a hair transplant recently and he described the swelling is horrible he said it goes down all the way to your eyebrows so u look like you've been in a boxing fight!!
My surgery will be focused on the front hairline so i knwo the swelling will go down all over my face!! I will keep a gel pack handy in the freezer and keep icing it. I already prepared myself for 4 weeks at home, lots of dvd's and tv.

Your Boyfriends hair transplants
Was hoping to get some first hand info from another hardcore Bodybuilder about getting hair transplants done. have had two consults so far and am pretty sure I want to go for it. 24 years old and really need it bad, tried the shaved head and it just didnt work for me.
Was hopping he would be willing to email or talk about his experience etc with a fellow juicer/Builder. Does he compete? Just started to compete here and its been awesome. Its getting to be more of a Mr. Perfect contest up there on stage. Total package wins the prize and sponsorships. Just started fixing my smile so the hair is next.
If he is willing to email or talk on the phone that would be great.
Thanks in advance.

Since there is no other thread started, I'll add my $0.02. I was in your spot a little over 2 years ago...100% sure I was getting one and decided not to after really thinking it through. Try to think long term; if at 24 you have problems, what will your hair look like at 50? 60? If you're planning a strip, you will never have the option of shaving your head again. If you want an FUT, you really can't shave your head again either, there will be visible scars from the punctures. Whether you're doing a strip or FUT, you will have to maintain it the rest of your life. Think about it, if I transplanted one hair to my right temple just as I started to bald, my hairline would have still receded to where it is now but I'd have a ridiculous hair 1" away from my hairline.
Also, FUT is very expensive. Maybe you can afford it now, but as I said, you will need more grafts in the future, and if you're like most people, you'll run out at around 8,000 grafts. At a rate of $10 - $20 per hair you're looking at $80,000 to $160,000 over your lifetime and relinquishing the option of shaving your head. If 20, 30, 40 years from now, you decide who the hell cares, just shave it...not an option anymore.
I understand you want to compete, transplants are just more life altering than most people know. If you have any question, feel free to post here or start a new thread. I did a TON of research so I can help answer any questions you have. And if you are truly set on it knowing everything I just said, go ahead and get one. I just know for me, when I fvck something up it's always easier to deal with it if I knew all the facts in advance...that way I know I fully accepted the risk.

This is all true. Ive done a ton of research because in the relatively near future I'm planning to get a HT. Bosley has a TERRIBLE reputation for leaving huge scars on the backs of peoples heads. Idk about their FUE but I know they are very primitive in their procedures and tend to butcher peoples heads and leave them nearly deformed. Ive seen many many pictures of bosley horror stories you can just search it.
I hope you know what your doing though KAEW you sound like you know your shit but adding a hairline is real risky if youre not really sure where your hair is going to end up. If you get a hairline put in with FUE it may look really good but if you end up losing lots of hair and end up a NW7 on the norwood scale you could potentially not have enough donor grafts left to make it look right and be left with a disaster on your hands. Best of luck bro I hope youre being a little conservative where you put it though
