    Mountain Bikes!

Okay fellas I just got my federal check back from the government and want to spend it on a bike... I've never been mountain biking but it seems fun and I'd like to get into it (it'll help with my lack of cardio as well)... What I am getting at, if any of you know, are what are some good bike brands? I know Diamondback and Iron Horse and pretty good, but what others? And again, I'm a beginner and looking to spend around 200-300 dollars!

Not sure if you can get much for that price. I would look for a good used one

You could find a good used one somewhere for 300-400. I have two Cannondales and I got one Cannondale F5 at a pawn shop for $100. I had to put new tires, Shimano shifters and brakes on it but the frame was virtually brand new. The guys at the shop had no idea how nice of a bike it was.

Yea, if you want to get hardcore with it and take some serious trails you'll want to drop at least $500.

I just bought this bike with my tax return about a week ago and I love it!

This bike was on sale for $400, a spring sale at a local bike shop. The tires are definitely terrible on the road so if you want to do street riding I'd go for a hybrid or perhaps a set of spare wheels. My fiance's bike barely needs peddling!

Check out some Trek's. They have some nice affordable bikes and you definitely get a quality bike with Trek. Specialized makes some kick ass models if you can hit a sale up you can certainly get one for around $300.

I bought an entry level Diamondback (Peak) last year and have been more than satisfied. It’s a solid bike with decent hardware (for the price) and has ft suspension. I’m sure a few hundred more would benefit those who ride all the time, but I realized quickly mountain biking wasn’t doing it for me. This year I bought a YZ426F and get 2x the workout and 10x the fun.

Yeah, you're right. But search ebay and get the frame for a good price and rebuild one into a great bike. F300, F400, and F500 frames can be bought for a bargin if you know how to do the rest yourself.

By the way, if you do look at getting a Cannondale make sure you get one with a front head shock and don't get one that is dual unless the rear has a lockout.
