American or Japanese
I would like to hear your opinions on this one:
Do you guys buy American or Japanese cars?
I always thought it was important to buy the best that you can within your price range. I have had two Japanese cars, and they have not even rattled once for the time that I owned them.
My ex girlfriend bought a pontiac. It has been back to the dealer a total of four times and is only three years old: 1) a new transmission 2) the tire pressure light wouldn't go off (??), 3)it wouldn't start, 4) it wouldn't start.
Are there any autoworkers on the board?
So many of the Japanese models are made in the USA. So it doesn't seem to be the assembly, just the design. Thoughts?
(And yes I know someone will say they only buy $70,000 autobahn cruisers or some swanky Italian sports car. This question is directed at the rest of us)

Toyota Prerunner. 99. I have over 80,000 miles on it, only change the oil every 6,000 miles and it runs better now then when I got it.
My dad sold his old toyota with 265,000 miles on it. Only 2 clutches and oil changes. No tune ups at all. His employee still has it at over 300,000 miles
I will buy toyota for the rest of my life most likely
Been thinking about a tahoe but don't want to give up the reliability.

Yes, but not all Japanese cars are those tweaked up Civics and Preludes. (I live in SoCA and in some parts, they are all the rage).
What about the Lexus and Acura line-- they are as solid as anything.
What are your opinions LJ?
Topless Jeep Wranglers: bad for the rain, and bad for crossing the Mojave: What was I thinking. Got pretty burned.

yeah, i don't really like the way a lot of american cars look either. i got a honda prelude with 65k miles on it. so far i've only had to change the battery.
as for suping it up and it being an obnoxious rice burner? yeah, i did some stuff. dropped it, exhaust, a few other minor things...was prepping it for a turbo. then i was like...why should i spend $5k on a 15 sec car to make it into a 12.5 sec car when i could buy a 10 sec bike for the same amount of money. so i did...got a cbr 600 f3...sadly, its not with us anymore...=(
jap bikes at the sheeeeit! i'd never buy a cruiser...=)

i love american cars like dodge viper and corrvette but i hate american engines. they need to work on how to build engines like the british, japenease, german and the italians.
the japs have really good falt 6 engines they have good N/A power and torque eg honda nsx 3.2 n/a 320bhp
but one of my most favorite cars come from england
ford sierra rs 500
2.0L 16 valve turbo
500 bhp
some 500+ bhp per ton
can be modifiyed upto 580 bhp and run quite reliably.
0-60,0-100,0-180 faster then a f50,f40, maclaren f1,viper venon 650r
hey the rs 500 might look like shit but it does the job.

I used to own an Acura Integra Type R (yes the originator of the stupid Type R stickers!) but long since sold the car because of theft/flak/morons.
I now drive a 99 3.2 Acura TL and it's so damn comfortable I wouldn't give it up for the world. Unless you want to hand me a 993 Turbo!

I hate ,no detest!, no wait abhor! rice grinders going around with thier little paint jobs and offset pin stripes thinking that an exhaust tip is gonna make them faster!? hahaha, they stink AMERICAN ALL THE WAY!!! so what if you get a little truoble here and there your keeping americans workings! and isnt that what its all about!? oh and never mind the prelude parked in the garage my wife made me buy it!

I like American cars, I just don't see buying an inferior engine(dependable wise, and long lasting ) just because it's got an American name on it.

The engines may be inferior when it comes to longevity but when was the last time you could walk into an autoparts store and buy a complete engine for under $1000 for a Honda? Never!
I got a 95 Camaro and if anything goes wrong with it I don't need some PHD in computers to fix the fucking problem. I also don't have to pay out my ass for parts or wait 2 months till somebody gets one in.
I've owned imports and have never had a problem with them, but I'll stick with my GM muscle and 13mile/gallon over a weed wacker sounding rice box which couldn't survive a 10mph crash without being totaled out by the insurance company.

Speak of the Devil!
Some jackass is reving his overprices prelude right outside my window. $25,000 and it's still a piece of shit.
Stickers and soy sauce won't help you when I smoke your ass.
