Is the difference between the #1 and #2 picks millions? Also, most people had Oden #1 on their boards even before the combine.

i read about that a couple weeks ago..meh, hes young..strength will come...and the guy has pretty much every physical disadvanage for benching..he obviously needs some work on his strength, but i dont think his bench alone will determine his success in the nba. im sure he will still kick ass.

^^Agreed. There have been plenty of other players who, when they first came to the league, couldn't bench 185. Hell, look at Magic after he left State.
Either way, Durant is very marketable as well. I bet his net earning are more than Oden's despite going 2.

Durant is still a hell of a player and I think will do well for himself in the NBA. Sure he might be weak right now, but he's only 19 and all it will take is a good trainer and dietician and he will get bigger in stronger in no time.

I see what you're saying bro- at the same time, watching his freshman season is enough to make me forget about his bench.
Anyone who can explode for 25 in a half, take over ball games, is 6'10 with handle and can stroke a j isn't worth passing over due to a weak press. His talent isn't as easy to come by as improving a bench press.

Lets see how easy it is for you to bench 185lbs when you have a 7'2" wingspan.

hey i think the portland trailblazers ignored alot of signs when they drafted sam bowie instead of michael jordan if its my ass on the line i dont care if its david robinson its criminal for that kid to be that weak

In the NFL, forsure. The NBA not so much...take a look at the other players with their names in the draft...I posted a thread a month or so back in the Sports section. So many of these guys are weak. You draft talent in the NBA...Durant is no Sam Bowie, bro...the comparison is weak. Bowie didn't even play two years at Kentucky due to injury.
Should the number #2 pick be DJ Strawberry because he performed best at the combine?

Lets not forget that Adam Morrison from Gonzaga was quite the college standout. His rookie season was very subpar at best. I'm using Morrison in comparison to Durant because the expectations that were set for Morrison will be similar for Durant (except they'll be even higher). I think Durant will have a better rookie season than Morrison did, but not too much better. Both are fantastic perimeter players with a very streaky jumpshot.
On the other hand, you've got a big ole banger in Greg Oden that will fit in seamlessly into the NBA game. The NBA product lacks the big, physical talent in my opinion so I very much anticipate a better showing from Oden than I do from Durant in their rookie seasons in the NBA.
That's just my $0.02.

^^Good points, mavs.
I also expect Oden to fit in very well- I have always said he will go number 1. He's got the attitude, size, athleticism and hopefully two hand come season tip off.
Morrison is a decent comparison. IMHO, Durant as a freshman showed so much more than Morrison...playing in one of the most competitive conferences to boot.
Either way, good post...haven't seen you kicking around here much lately- hope all is well.

True he's not strong now, but just imagine how good he'll be when he does get strong.
