    Almost sh!t myself...

    Today, at Gold's East Tokyo, I was doing legs. Anyhow, I had finished hack squats, followed by squats, and was doing leg press. Anyhow, I wanted to use light weight, full range of motion (rock bottom - feet to buttocks) and strict movement to burn my quads. I did a warm-up set with 225 and then threw on another plate to each side (315). I was on my 13th rep and suddenly felt a sharp pop followed by pain on the lower right side of my ribcage. I separated one of my ribs! I almost sh!t myself pushing the damn thing up in order to lock it out.

    Then, as I was gimping out of the gym to head home and to the hospital, Gold's was showing some "Road to the Olympia" video in the lobby. I stopped for a second to watch and the camera went up to a door. Craig Titus answered! D'oh!!!

    Yeah, I had a pretty good idea of what had happened, but of course I wasn't 100% sure. The x-ray confirmed it. All that swimming, drownproofing, and running in the military must've paid off - the doc said I had the biggest lungs he'd ever seen on an x-ray.

    I'm not sure, but I think the timing between my breathing and pushing was off. After I lowered the weight down as far as it would go, I meant to take a big breath in before pushing the weight up and exhaling. But, I began pushing before I finished taking a breath, so at the same time that my lungs were expanding/filling I started to push and that's when I felt a "pop" and sharp pain in my lower right ribcage.

    Anyhow, the Japanese doc wouldn't give me anything stronger than motrin, so this morning I gimped my way to a Russian doc in Roppongi. He hooked me up with some Darvocet (same class as Percocet) and now I'm feeling groovy. Funny 'cause I still feel the pain, but just don't care. This stuff is great!!!

    the reason i ask is i did almost exactly the same thing,cant quite figure out what ive done its a pain like ive never had before,i havnt been to the doc i assumed id just pulled a muscle maybe an internal oblique cos side bending is the only thing that makes it hurt more,ive been off training for 2 weeks,i assume theres no treatment other than rest,i cant feel anything loose or protruding so perhaps it is just a nasty sprain,oh well

    Yeah, just off what you posted, sounds like an oblique or a**ominal injury. For just about any injury, I use the tried and true RICE method.
    R - rest
    I - ice
    C - compression
    E - elevation

    So, as I type this, I've got an ace bandage wrapped around my ribcage with a bag of frozen peas under it. When I lay down, I lay on my left side to keep the right side elevated. As for rest, I just try not to breathe too deeply or yawn. I think I'll take a break from the board because Tai's posts in the "Dirty Posing Routine" thread make me laugh and that hurts pretty bad too.

    And I know how you feel about the docs not giving you good pain meds. I powdered a bone in my hand a few weeks ago in a fight. The doc is like oh you prolly got a boxers break, got the x-rays back and shes like oh WOW you really did a good job of breaking that bone. So ya they said I powdered it, jus like smashed it into many pieces. They didnt give me anything for the pain lol. I had to go see a plastic surgeon for it the next day, the nurse is like OMG THEY ARE CRUEL YOU NEED MEDS. I declined anyways, makes you stronger.
