dude, i believe that it is a real disorder. i just don't believe this dog has it. like webb said, the only thing this dog has is "photoshopitis".

they could of photoshoped a gerbal and said it had this disorder, doesn't mean it really did. don't believe eveything you here.

do you really think this disorder has this dramatic of muscle growth? maybe a few extra pounds, but it's not going to make "whippet ronnie coleman".

according to the journals and write ups that i've read...it IS enough to make a whippet ronnie coleman...in laboratory mice this genetic disorder actually causes double and triple muscling...there is actually a breed of cow(the name escapes me) that this disorder effects quite often...these cows appear much the same way as the dog...can i guarantee this photo isn't photo shopped? nah...but in all likely hood is it real yes...and this breed of dog is prone to this disorder as well. you can find many pictures similar to this...i didn't mean to sound like i'm jumping down your throat on this, i'm just really intrigued by this disorder and wish i could temporarily enable it...lol

i don't know, i know nothing of the disease so i can't tell if that sucker is real or not!? it's just so damn big for a freakin whippet!

you're right though, it would be cool to be able to turn the disorder on and off though!

I've actually seen some of the papers on it where they are able to 'knock out' the effectiveness of the gene with some strange chems. what i wonder is if you 'knock out' the effectiveness of the gene with the chems, and then stop taking the chems, does it come back? in effect that would be turning it on and off.

the good thing about it is that i haven't actually seen any research stating that this is at all bad in any way. No sides from blocking or having that gene turned off. Supposedly the mice even live just as long as their unmodified counterparts(control group) and just as healthy besides the enormous mass of muscle.

This gene controls the release/creation of a protein that is believed to effect the satellite cells in muscles and cause them to refrain from going into repair mode. Removing the gene, or preventing the release of this protein would then cause the satellite cells to go nutz and stay in repair mode - aka get huge for no reason.

Only fear i've read that there is no conclusive evidence on is that these satellite cells MAY run out of their 'repair juice', or may burn themselves out. BAD, muscle wasting with no growth and no way to repair. in effect, artificial muscular dystrophy. But this one is only a theory, it doesn't happen this way in the cows or the mice studied.

good read if you are interested - http://www.thinkmuscle.com/ARTICLES/volk/myostatin.htm

Some of the Belgian Blue Bulls can get upwards of 1300kgs, but they average around 1100 to 1250kgs. The cows are substantually lighter.

Click here for original article on the dog: http://www.canada.com/victoriatimesc...6-1b982456e793

I think some people will be suffering from eatcrowitis after reading the above article.

This whole myostatin blocking stuff has been brought up a number of times. Im not sure why you all think it would be the greatest thing ever...Same as AAS and HGH, they dont do a whole lot without hella work and diet etc. Plus we ARE NOT animals. Animals have enormous amounts of muscle and dont ever step foot in a gym obviously, we work out for 30 years and are still fragile compared to animals.

So this whole myostatin will make everyone look like Ronnie is a HUGE joke. And just so you all know, you do realize HGH already inhibits myostatin by 30-40% right? And still people take GH all the time with barely much muscle growth.

I wonder how many more threads we are still gonna see where people wish they could get this "miracle" drug? We are humans, weak and small animals...we will never grow like true animals EVER.

couldnt have said it better myself.

As for the no-side effect notion: there is no way in hell!

If an animal or human were develop 3 times the amount of muscle mass, there would be even more heart attacks occuring than there are already. The body isnt designed to carry that much tissue. The heart will wear itself out even attempting to get oxygen to all those cells
