Anyone have sleep apnea?
The more I read about it and talk to people the more sure I am that I've been suffering with this for awhile now. For the past year or two I've been very tired during the day. I walk around like a zombie in slow motion. It gets to the point where I almost can't function. I can't think straight and I forget things from one minute to the next. I drink coffee and eat caffeine pills all day but it really doesn't help much. I had to drive about an hour to take some classes for work and I had a really hard time staying awake. Once I was in the classroom it was impossible to stay awake. Within minutes I was face down on the table snoring away....just like in high school. I thought it was from the GH but I was like this before I started that. My wife has been telling me that I snore alot and then I stop breathing altogether, gasp a little bit and start breathing again. I talked to a guy I work with who had the exact same symptoms and now he uses and air pump with a mask kinda setup. He says it helped alot. I'm going for my physical and bloodwork this week and I'm going to get a script for a sleep apnea test. You know the funny thing is, when I finally get into bed at night I can't fall asleep for shit without my seroquel.

Yup those are the symptoms.
I was gonna go into a sleep study for it also.
The problem is the study was scheduled when i was off-juice. and I dropped about 20lbs.
once that happened, my snoring went away and i began to function better.
I tried to get it rescheduled to while i'm ON.
but than kind of forgot all bout it alltogether..
yah memory can be shit.. but i have no idea, if its sleep apnea, or just getting older or what.. maybe on set diabetes i am not sure.. i have to get blood work..
recently i cleaned up my diet big time, will see if that makes me feel better.
The thing that made me move away from suspecting sleep apnea, is that i recorded myself while sleeping..
I snored lightly, and i seem to awake here n there..so it wasnt a solid sleep.
but..
at no point did i stop breathing or take a gasp for air..
so after a few record sessions like that, i started to suspect that it is not sleep apnea..
If you wife tells u right up front you gasp for air, than yah get a referrel from your doc for a sleep study.

youre definately experiencing symptoms of someone with sleep apnea..i suffer from similar shit day to day, but im also still in recovery from a terrible viral infection that put me on my ass for a year..but if you are so tired you cant function after a full nights rest, get it checked out..straight up. im going in to get it checked in a couple weeks..my dad has sleep apnea, his dad had sleep apnea, and died of heart failure when he was pretty young. gasping for air in the middle of the night puts your cardiovascular system under strain it should be going through..who knows how many times a night that could be happening. get it checked out dude! i will let you know what my doc tells me after i go through the test..but for the sake of your own health, i would at look into it.
peace

Sleep apnea isn't something to **** around with. It can cause heart damage later on in life. I had sleep apnea and had maxillofacial jaw surgery to help correct it. Apparently my upper and lower jaws were slightly back compared to my skull and would press against my throat as I would sleep and cause me to have less oxygen in my blood during the night. I had a sleep test done and they found out in my deepest sleep that I would wake up every 2 minutes (30 times/hour) because of it. The surgery was brutal though. They literally had to break my upper and lower jaw to correct it. They sawed my lower jaw and put in bone plates and screws and moved it forward by 1cm. My upper jaw was literally sawed off my head and moved forward 1cm as well to keep my bite the same and screwed back into my skull. I had to wear braces for a month to ensure that my teeth did not shift (I wore braces before this for over 3 years) and try to keep my bite the same as before. On top of this, I lost about 30lbs in a month. Try not eating ANYTHING for a week straight. I was not allowed to leave the hospital until I could swallow liquids. I was in the hospital for 3 1/2 days. After that I was stuck eating pured food. I was 20 years old when I had the surgery (I'm 22 now).
PS this was a serious case of sleep apnea. Not everyone goes through this. Most people end up using a CPAP machine to help them sleep.

I had it so bad they never even bothered with the Sleep Apnia study, I went straight to surgery. Now I do not snore at all and I can finally breath through my nose. I had my tonsils and Uvula removed, soft pallet tightened and my septum in my nose straightened. It was, however, 14 of the most painful days of my life

Yeah my buddy had some surgery done. I hope it doesn't come to that. My quality of life is really suffering not to mention my work. The slower I am the less I make. Plus I'm real nasty all the time cause I'm so tired. I can only imagine how much better my workouts would be and just think of the recovery. Right now I'm probably not even getting any REM sleep so I'm not getting the recovery I need. Shit if I can fix this sleep thing I'll be huge. I have no idea how I can work 11 hours a day and still get to the gym for an hour or two 5-6 days a week.

I have sleep apnea and I sleep with a cpap machine. It is miserable to be tired all day long. I am also convinced that my gains have been diminished because of it, and I also have a harder time staying lean than I used to and I think that that is related. I here you though man it is as miserable as can be.

Well I got a script today for a sleep study but I'm not sure how much the insurance company will cover. I know it's a big deal test and I just don't have alot of money.

Guys,
I had the UPPP surgery in 2003. Now I'm on CPAP. The UPPP surgery success rates are only 50%. I was put on CPAP about two weeks ago. I wake up in the night and take it off in my sleep!! I wake up the next morning to find it on the floor next to my iPod!! I'm told that's common and I'll get used to it.
So...I don't feel much better...yet

I got mild occasional sleep apnea... 2-3 nights per month. According to my doctor my airays are mildly deviated and as long as I sleep in a proper position I am ok.
Only reason I ever found out was that one of my ex's is a nurse and would elbow me to change positions when I stopped breathing at night. I also had the "super-tired for no reason" days, but I thought it was tdue to my shift work.
It freaks out the guys in the dorm at the station when it hits me there though... I'll half-wake up gasping for air big time... our new rookie thought I was choking the other night
It's funny this thread should pop up as I had it 2 nights ago, I normally have no trouble getting up in the morning (I get up at 5h00 for work when I'm on day shift) but yesterday was murder and I could barely function.

The guy I work with says his life changed completely for the better with the cpap machine. I'd just go buy one but you need a script. I found one on EBay for 500 bucks.

Pentang, it's a forced air respirator that helps regulate your breathing when you sleep.
Supposed to make a huge difference for the folks who have chronic sleep apnea.
