    Jeet Kune Do & Fighting

Does any here take or have taken JKD?

    it seems pretty cool.

the favorite combo here seems to be muay thai and bjj.
but i think JKD and boxing would be pretty decent....from a street brawl standpoint.

im not looking to get in a ring or anything, but if i was to square off with just some street punk, i would be in pretty good shape.

plus, it seems like boxing/JKD would be eaiser/quicker to learn than muay thai/bjj.

boxing/JKD to be a good idea?

I wanna take both, however, closest BJJ place is San Diego Fight Club and its way overpriced (for me at least) and the closest Muay Thai training place has to be a damn half hour away.

If I learned another style of fighting it would be Judo. Judo + Muay Thai + BJJ would be some brutal shit. You'd be dominator at throws and ground work and submission. The only shortfall to Judo would be some moves require the opponent to be in a gi, and obviously if you compete MMA or whatever you wouldn't be going against many dudes in that uniform.

I think Tia trains Muay Thai and BJs.

If I were you and for what you wanna do. I would train Muay Thai & Wrestling. If you got real good at both, you would be a nightmare for any common street punk.

But I see no reason why anyone wants to train just for some stupid street encounter.

I'm not worried though, because once you start training, a street fight will be the farthest thing from your mind. That is unless you are just some moron with ego issues.

Go with Krav Maga. All these disciplines teach you technique and that's all great, but if you're faced with a situation on the street, 99% of the time it's how you're able to control yourself, especially if you're faced with more than just one opponent. It's more mental than anything. Sometimes adrenaline helps you in a fight and sometimes it acts against you. If you can teach yourself to control yourself (such as breathing) when faced in such situations, you'll do great.
BJJ is also good as most of the fights on the street go on the ground and there's nothing scarier than not knowing what to do on the ground and losing consciousness as someone is choking you out.
When I was doing Krav Maga just to stay in shape, my trainer happened to be from Romania where Sambo is the primary discipline, just as in Russia and most former Soviet Union states, so he encorporated alot of it into our classes. For those that are not familiar with Sambo, there are 2 types. The latest one (one that Fedor prefers and competes at more often)is Combat Sambo, which is pretty much Muay Thai, Boxing, BJJ, Wrestling all in one. There's also just Sambo which is primarily based on Judo and jiu-jitsu. I did Sambo for 7 years when I was younger and never really got into Combat Sambo.
I liked the benefits of Krav Maga because it gets you in shape as well as teaches you simple things to help you in a street fight. More importantly the mental aspect of it.

Maybe 1-2yrs of getting your ass handed to you constantly, then you might be ok.

    Enjoy!
