the porn industry will dictate the future just like it did with Beta vs VHS. Wait and see which format it choses and you will have your answer.

I think BluRay signed exclusive deal with Disney and I suspsect it may have a big impact as they produce a lot of material...

Blu ray- its Sony's baby. Much like the DVD, which won out over other formats. They won that war and will win this one also.

well the porn industry already uses hd dvd because sony would not give them the ability to make porn on blu ray. I think it will be blu ray I bought blu ray already so I hope it is otherwise its a grand down the drain

I was reading about a new optical system that has been in development since the 70's that will come out in mabe 5 years. 1 disc can hold a tetrabyte. I would wait, anyway unless your home theater is awsome dvd is good enough imo.

Beta was Sony's tech and they lost big time on that. Sony tech does not guarantee anything.

I have a ps3 and i'm amazed by the quality of blu-rays. HD definitely looks good as well but from what i've seen with mine blu-ray is better. It's hard to really say 100% though without having them side by side.

Except this time its Sony, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Pioneer, LG, Dell, HP, Apple, 20th Century Fox, Vivendi Universal, and Walt Disney on the Blu ray side.

hd dvd will win simply cause the general public can correlate more with HD and not blu ray

The general public is confused by the name. Read the amazon reviews. People are buying HD DVDs for their regular DVD players and getting pissed off when it doesn't play. They think the discs are defective.

By blu-ray basing it's name on the technology people can differentiate the 2 technologies. Unlike HD DVD. They think it's a higher definition regular DVD.

neither have done well in the market...not many people want to pay all that extra money for not much difference in quality. Its all bs with having both formats.. stay away from it untill its worth it in the future when you know what format everything will be and that the quality is worth the upgrade...dont waste your money.

There is a big difference in quality between DVD and blu-ray/HD DVD. The problem is the difference is not as drastic as VHS to DVD. The average person looks at a DVD and considers it high definition because it looks better than VHS. I've seen people watch up converted standard definition broadcasts and they thought they were watching high definition. They came to my house and saw a blu-ray movie and said WOOOOOOW so that's what HD looks like. It's not that the technology isn't there yet, it looks great. It's the ignorance of the general public. Sony, Toshiba and the movie studios need to spend more money marketing and showing the benefits of the technology.
