Holy shit boys... HERE WE GO AGAIN!!!!
This is on the front page headline of yahoo news just now: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slu...yhoo&type=lgns
OH NO!!! U GAISE!! HE'S USING HGH!!! HOLY SHIT, IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD BECAUSE HGH IS THE SOLE CAUSE OF EVERYTHING THAT IS IMPURE AND EVIL IN THIS WORLD, RIGHT?!?!
F'ing dumbasses. What is wrong with the media and the public in general? If Byrd said he needed the HGH for a medical condition, then why the hell this big report about it as if he's doing somehting so horrible? Even if he DIDN'T have a medical condition, it's still not something horrible!!! This makes me sick to see the media and people make such a huge issue of something that ISN'T an issue!

I read earlier that said he used it between 2002-2005 but then said MLB didnt ban it untill 2005 so why is this a big deal if he used it before it was a banned substance.

Honestly If you take aas out of sports, they won't be as fun to watch. Who wants to see a game with pitchers throwing sub 90's and no home-runs. Pro football would suck more, and the Olympics would be horrible,( actually they are anyway but they would be worse) Bottom line is they are good for sports, I say just let everyone do them! I have respect for natural body builders, thats cool and all, but if I am going to watch a comp I want to see the giants not the decent sized guys.

But even if it did, baseball is a professional sport and a private organization. It is a priveledge and choice to play. If you have a condition that requires you to use performace enhancing drugs (and it is against their rules) then I do not have a problem with them saying "sorry, you cant play." Seems quite illogical to allow a player a loophole which would be quite easy to illegitimately bypass.

We can argue all day about whether it should or should not be a rule in sports to allow or disallow steroids ....the point is that they are disallowed and the rules should be followed.

How could someone with a medical condition such as his be considered a loop hole.
Secondly what about players that have vision problems. Having some sort of vision correction would give that player an advantage in sports such as baseball.

But this is exactly the reason that baseball and other sport DO allow insulin for diabetic problems, as well as vision correction for players with eye problems. They do allow for these considerations. The frequency of these conditions as well as the amount of increase in performance beyond natural abilities are factors that are taken into consideration when determining the rules and their exceptions. For example, while a player with an eye condition condition may be allowed the increase of performance in his correction, a recent amputee (of a pitching arm lets say) requiring a mechanical, motorized replacement may not.
The point still remains that if a private organization makes a rule, its violation is "cheating."

if im wrong correct me here, but i remember reading that he was prescribed HGH for a condition that he has... i think that it's bullcrap that this is even under review by the MLB... the guy has a legit health issue that needed to be taken care of, even if it is a performance enhancing drug.... if it's prescribed i think there should be not problem with his use at all...

I think it was perscribed by a clinic under investigation for "perscribing" HGH to atheletes.

SSRI's,SNRI's,etc... are performance enhancers, they use synthetic chemicals to make you feel better, not be depressed, not have anxiety, which are all natural things that people go through.
Ambien is a performance enhancer. It allows a person who naturally has trouble sleeping to achieve a full 8 hours of sleep and be more rested.
Allegra, Claritin, etc.. are performance enhancers. They help someone who is naturally affected by the elements to be decongested and more clear.
See where Im going here? Just about anything that isn't water, air, and natural food can be looked at as improving performance in some aspect of life. To label HGH and other things performance enhancers, while ignoring the other thousands of chemicals that enhance performance is naive, as well as a double standard.

It all comes down the the level of enhancement and the amount beyond the objectively natural that it attains.

They make rules and exceptions based on pragmatics. In this case, baseball allows this probably due to the fact that rather than push those past their natural abilitites, it just masks injury. Secondly, the public and legal perception. Etc Etc...
Its not about necessarily protecting players as it is about "creating an even playing field." I am not saying that baseball should continue to not allow steroids , im just speaking on why they do.

However, while it is true that there is a higher link with people on SSRI's, etc to commit suicide the statistic seems to be on the severely, severely depressed. Sometimes people are so pulled in by depression that they in fact could care less about anything at all...until they take their depression medication and all of a sudden it pulls them out just enough to want to actually do something...that is kill themselves.
Interestingly enough, I wonder how many suicides it has prevented. These drugs do wonders for many people.
