Do you have any network drives mapped?

try this before anything else, MicroSoft has a habit of not being user friendly (assuming you are on XP) try this.
It is a list of things I did when I had a problem with my iPod not syncing on my laptop

iPod problem with XP (possible solution)

Basically what I was hinting at, Just use disk management and assign your ipod drive another drive letter.

Was one of them where nobody had any ideas what to do. Microsfot had no support, and neither did Mac, all i coudl find was reinstall your software, only so many times you can do that before you start to wonder if your pc can learn to fly before hitting the floor.

so i did a bit of my own fiddling and that is what i came up with. shoudl work. mine is working fine now.

Reason i had a E: letter assigned for my drive was i did a low level format on the drive some time ago and let the machine decide what letter to assign the drive when i re installed everything from scratch. That is where the problems started as my laptop was assigning the iPod as the C: drive. Cant have a Drive containing the running O/S with a higher letter than other drives connected.

Should be ok with following my instructions tho
