    Anyone play the drums?

I am thinking about getting into playing the drums, something I have always wanted to do..
Is there anyone out there that plays that could give me some advice on what to get for a first timer?

i had a set, i bought them, never really practiced or used them held on to them for a few years and sold them for what i bought them for, buy a used set from someone you can trust or find someone who knows drums to help you buy a used set, get a basic set , ones snare, two toms, floor tom, high hat, 2 crash cymbals, and a bass drum double pedal, and that is all you need to learn. tama drums are good and zildijan(sp?) symbols are what i used

So for my first set do you think I can just go out and get the cheapest set I can find? just for learning...
I know this sounds lame but I have always wanted to play the drums and i have been tearing it up on the rockband drums... so i know i have the rythm thing down.. but i sorta want to go one step further...

ditto, but as far as basic set, zildijan cymbols can get pricey, go for something cheaper. sabian for example, has a cheaper set they make
but ya, tama or pearl, u can get a nice basic set, used for probably around 300-400 bucks
i got a pearl session custom set, which costs around 1400 w zildijan a custom cymbols, but there is no need for u to get one like that yet.

    drums are fun

sweet man, that was what I was looking at from a different store, but this one includes the cymbals...

So that 5 peice set "should" be ok for me for a couple years or even a year while i learn right?

i would look for something that has the basics like Dr.sust said,
snare, bass, 2 rack toms, 1 floor tom, highhats, and at least 1 cymbal.
if u can find all those into one "beginner pack", go for it.
but before u buy anything, make sure u do a little research on the set/brand too see how people reviewed it.

it should be, plus from the reviews ive read, its pretty good bang for yr buck.
depending on how much u play and how hard u hit the drums, it should last few years, but u might have to change the heads a couple times. and tune them right, so u get a good sound

So which one of these do you think would be the better deal...
From reading up I have pretty much settled on one of these...

Pulse Pro 5-Piece Drum Set with CymbalsOverall: 8.13 For 419.00 w/ shipping

Ludwig Accent 5-Piece Drum Kit and Zildjian ZBT Cymbal Set for 479.00 w/ shipping

I hear Zildjian are good cymbals.. better then the Pulse ones... Is it worth the extra 60 bux you think?

Also, what else do I need to get startted... tools, tuning etc stuff?

    Thanks for all your help!

From the time I was 16 to 21 I had a drum set at my disposal but I moved out and couldn't play where I moved to so I sold them like a dick.I'm very passionate about music and would never give it up completly it's my calling but never had the courage to answer and give myself to it completly due to the fact I didn't want to wake up a 40 year old musician with no retirement fund and no career,I'm a realist and in NJ I've seen awesome bands come and go and never make it to the big leagues.I still play whenever I'm at my buddy's house and I still got it.But when I play I get kind of emotional and think of what I could've done with my naturel ability. It's a melancholy melt down that I consider a occupational hazard, but I never took a lesson and picked it up very fast.

Playing drums, bodybuilding and hanging out with my son are the only things I truly enjoy in this life.

There loud as hell buddy,Buy a cheap 5 piece,as long as you have some good heads and rings for them that keep the vibration down, you buy a tuner for them and get a couple good cymbols and see if you like playing.Your looking to spend atleast $500.00 easy on a used 5 piece and some good used cymbols if your lucky.Heads arn't cheap either, there roughly $1 dollar an inch per head.
