okay so when start up the computer it goes to a white screen with a question mark and just flashes and wont do anything else.
Does anyone have any idea what this could be or how to fix it?

The question mark means your computer can't find Mac OS. Try holding down the option/alt key as you turn it on. It should show you all the disks you can boot from. If you can find a "Macintosh HD" or similar in there, select it with the arrow keys and hit Return to start up.

If that works, you probably just have the startup disk set wrong. Pull down the Apple menu, hit System Preferences and go into Startup Disk. Select your hard disk in the list that comes up and close it.

    Hope this helps.

Give me more info and I'll try and help.

Where did you get the Mac? What model is it? What version of the Mac OS is it running?

    Need more info.

MacBook Mac OS X Install Disc 1(on one side)
(left side of disc) To start up from Ma OS X, hold down the C key as the computer starts up. To Use Apple Hardware Test, hold down the D key as the computer starts up.
