If you are connected, make sure you are connected
    Once you are sure
    go to the start menu
    then run
    type in cmd
    hit enter
    in the black window
    type nslookup www.yahoo.com
see if it does soemthing like so
    Code:
    Server: dns-ISP.com
    Address: 24.29.123.44

    Non-authoritative answer:
    Name: www.yahoo-ht3.akadns.net
    Address: 69.147.114.210
    Aliases: www.yahoo.com
If that works, then you have DNS working.
See if you can do this command in the black window
    ping www.yahoo.com

One question, do you have other pcs connected to that modem/router setup?
    Are they working?

Try something simple, reboot the wireless device even if its the modem/router.
    Just unplug the ac adapter.

Also what OS is on this laptop, vista, xp?
Whens the last time this wireless networked worked?
Are you sure you are connecting to the proper SSID?

You have Road Runner, cable modem.
Sometimes, Havent seen it in a while, these fag ISP would Limit the # of MAC addresses allowed to associate with the modem unless you had another router that wasnt road runners.
Also Try this, disconnect your ethernet cael from your pc and plug it directly into the laptop and tell us if that works, o and disable the wireless adapter by going to start
    control panel
    network setting
    right click disable
then right click enable after were done testing

    go to start run cmd
    Type ipconfig /release

    then ipconfig /renew

Then try going into your device manager and delete your driver for the wireless network adapter and restart your computer.

Also look in internet options connections to never a dial up connection

lan settings make sure the proxy box is NOT checked. and check automatically detect settings

then start control panel network connections. right click local area connections go to propeties highlight internet protocol then hit properties.

make sure obtain an ip address automatically

and obtain dns server automatically are checked.
then to alternate configuration for automatic private ip address checked.

still nothing after that download the program dial a fix

make sure you hit the green check mark for everything and then hit go after that is done restart and if you still have problems its gonna be a bad network card. or your provider sucks right now.

One other thing you may want to try is to check and see if your router is set to allow wireless connections. If your desktop connects to the router, open up your browser and type in the aqddress bar 192.168.1.1, then click go. You'll get a popup window asking for a username and password to logon to your linksys router, and if you have not set them yet they will be the default username:admin password:linksys (your going to want to change these to something you'll remember, to avoid anyone in your local vicinity logging on to your router). Once logged onto the router, go to wireless>basic wireless settings and verify that the wireless network mode is not set to disabled. Chances are, it's something to do with your wireless networking card or the internet settings in your laptops operating system, but if you've exhausted those possibilities, it may be worth your while to check the router.

The router should assign all the proper WAN infomation to your DHCP client which is your laptop.

Disable the wireless on the laptop, just try to connect through the ethernet port, then try and see if you can browse the web

Did you put in a password for the wireless signal ?
Some require a WAP address (on back of modem) or they might use one of the two standards: admin or password

Are you sure the modem from the cable company has wireless built in? Most do not. You need a wireless router connected to the cable modem to share the internet connection to your wired and wireless computers.

    Try this.....

In your internet explorer or firefox address bar type:

    http://64.233.183.147

If it brings up the www.google.com homepage your internet connection is working fine, just that your browser isn't asking your ISP for the correct "route" to the website!!

You could solve this by copying the DNS information from a known working computer (your main PC) into your daughters laptop.

You can buy one from Best buy or circuit city for $40. Get a wireless G router. You set it up like this: Cable modem plugs into router, desktop plugs into router, laptop gets internet wirelessly. It's very easy to setup.

When you install the router make sure you reset the cable modem by unplugging it for a few seconds then plugging it back in. The cable modem will power up and bond with the router.
