See, this is why I love Snake Plissken.
I just love all the threads lately about how America is falling apart, and how we're entering the phase of a corrupt fascist corporate-controlled system where we will all be enslaved. And it all just reminds me of how awesome a character Snake Plissken is. Snake Plissken: man, hero, legend, scum, dirt, hideous unsightly mole on the ass of society. Plissken, from the films 'Escape from New York' and 'Escape from LA', is seen in many different lights by one and all. Snake Plissken portrays an unintelligent grunt, interested in all things uncivil. Or is this truly the case?
Plissken, whilst appearing as a quiet man, does say incredibly realistic and true statements which could be paralleled to the world today. During the course of the film 'Escape from LA', two statements rang out as an accurate assessment of the modern world by an average man fighting for his right to live free; Snake Plissken.
When Plissken was confronted with a seemingly world threatening situation, his simple reply was "sad story, got a smoke?" This is arguably the response of the majority of modern day humans; people no longer care about what is going on around them, people are continually thinking inwardly as oppose to outwardly. The very leaders of today and tomorrow lack worldly thinking, the care for ones neighbour. Lifestyles are being carved to "perfection" by those with power, a selfish move for self benefit. Traditions and the values of old are being discarded as unnecessary and irrelevant to modern living, but as Sir Winston Churchill said, "A love for tradition has never weakened a nation; indeed it has strengthened nations in their hour of peril."
The selfish leaders of today enforce change, which leads me to Plissken's next statement: "the more things change, the more they stay the same." The past is full of those willing to only work for their personal gain, this results in only one truth on this earth; that human nature will never change, progress as a society will never come to pass. This being a stark conclusion, what could possibly be a solution to this predicament? One must search within to the aforementioned statement made by Plissken, that "the more things change, the more they stay the same", therefore the solution to today’s failing society is to cease the selfish changes imposed by the inward desires of the world leaders. Plissken, a visionary, knew all this but no doubt felt helpless to fight the world and so made the final revolutionary step: screw the world, "welcome to the human race".
John Carpenter was really ahead of his time when he made those movies.

Snake Pliskin rules, John Carpenter rules and so does Kurt Russel. Other worth mentions starring this awesome pair up is Big Trouble in Little China and The Thing.
I wouldn't mind watching some Pliskin films again, makes you wonder if it really is a sign of things to come.Last edited by Flagg; 01-03-2008 at 05:48 PM.
