Haven't filed Taxes
Hey, I'm 22 and I have never filed my taxes... alot of my work was under the table or 1099, and very minimal on the books or w-2
I want to clear up my backed taxes and see where I stand but I dont know what the best way to do it is...
Any advice?

The longer you wait the more you will have to pay as the IRS charges late fees, penalties, and interest.

Meh, you'll be ok. Just never pay them...jk. Have an accountant run your information to see how much you owe right now.

Technically there is no law, but they do have all the guns and will defaintely force you to pay. So I suggest you pay taxes!

with a 1099, you can always assert your itemized deductions incurred while making that money as it is not pure income. If it were me, I would not screw with it. The IRS will only go back 3 years with personal income. If you did your taxes right with this back income, it would probably be a wash........

Muriloninja is right. Their is no actual law that requires you to pay federal income tax.

do you know how many people are sitting in Fed. prison with this same thought? Problem is, none of them seem to have read the 16th amendment of the US Constitution (ratified 1913):
"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration."
I hate paying thousands in every April, but to not do so because you think it against the law is unfounded and dumb.

Do some ****ing research, the ammendmant was not ratified properly. I like how former IRS agents and the commisioner himself cannot state the law, but you can. umm.ok
I swear someone has taken over your account, or you are high.
YES, there are people in jail. They will force you to pay the tax whether you like it or not, its a simple authoritarian approach. Nothing more, nothing less.***No source checks!!!***

I don't, but I know the number is high.
Good point, however, the supreme court ruled in 1920 that income is not wages, but it's gains from corporate activity. Your labor and wages are your private property. I don't see that in the ammendment. Therefore, a direct unapportioned tax on labor and wages is illegal stated by the constitution.
Eisner v. Macomber, 252 U.S. 189, 207, 40 S.Ct. 189, 9 A.L.R. 1570 (1920):
“…Whatever difficulty there may be about a precise scientific definition of ‘income,’ it imports, as used here, something entirely distinct from principal or capital either as a subject of taxation or as a measure of the tax; conveying rather the idea of gain or increase arising from corporate activities.”
The following supreme court ruling solidifies these claims.
Stanton v. Baltic Mining Co., 240 US 103 (1916)
"...by the previous ruling, it was settled that the provisions of the 16th Amendment conferred no new power of taxation but simply prohibited the previous complete and plenary power of income taxation possessed by Congress from the beginning from being taken out of the category of INDIRECT taxation to which it inherently belonged.."
However, the IRS code, which is a law, is different. Title 26 states:
"There is hereby imposed on the taxable income of every individual . . . who is not a married individual a tax determined in accordance with the following table:"
As you can see their is still use of the word income so I'm sure this could be debated on whether or not taxes on your wages are legal. Don't interpret this as me telling you not to pay your taxes. I'm just giving you something to think about. It's basically just an interpertation of the law.
To not question the law is unfounded and dumb.

It was still rattified, it still exists and still says you pay taxes. Whether it was done correctly or not doesnt matter, the tax law exists.
In response, Congress proposed the Sixteenth Amendment (ratified by the requisite number of states in 1913), which states:
The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several States, and without regard to any census or enumeration.
In any sense of it, we still need to be paying taxes, things dont happen in this country without the citizens money. Though, I must agree with Ron Paul in that doing away with our debt to the Federal Reserves(or the group all togethor) would be in our best interest. We are never going to pay that back, our money could be put to better use, or just less taxes.Last edited by Psychotron; 01-14-2008 at 10:36 PM.

I am very familiar with the ratification that you guys keep sighting. The fact of the matter is that the 16th amendment to the Constitution is very real. I pay much more taxes than the average person does, believe me. I am no IRS cronie, nor do I want to be the apologist for them in here, nor do I enjoy sending my hard-earned money to them every April. But the fact is that many, many Americans have attempted to fight this in court. You must all know where that got them.........

In France , if you "missed" taxes , they charge you about 20% , plus penalties.
Also if they catch you 1 time, it's finished for 10years
You have to declare every cents you earn , or they will charge you ....
