Okay, so a buddy of mine who recently became a big Ron Paul supporter just turned the opposite direction. He was apparently having a debate with some dude over the federal income tax issue (whether or not Americans should pay it) and the guy convinced him that there IS a law, by showing him this website:
http://docs.law.gwu.edu/facweb/jsieg.../taxes/F2F.htm
That website deals with debunking the film Freedom To Fascism. So after seeing that, I got into an arguement with my buddy over it on MSN shortly after, and now he's convinced that there's no dangers we face, and we live in a perfect world, everything is great, and that everything is perfectly stable, blah blah blah. Now, if there is someone who convinces ME that there IS an income tax law, that doesn't mean that it's also going to convince me that we aren't facing huge problems (stripping of personal liberties, RFID Chips, etc.). But my buddy just abandoned all that as well and thinks there's no threat to himself or his liberty in the near future.
Now, i'm not saying I am swayed. But, what do you all think of that link and is there any truth to what the person wrote?
Here are some exerpts of things he said from our arguement (names edited):
Friend: we've both been lead up the garden path
Friend: blindly sucking down fantasies of dystopian bullshit
Me: so, you think the federal reserve should still stand? you think they should just allow the politicians to continue to print money whenever they need it?
Friend: yes
Friend: because thye don't print money whenever they need it
Friend: that created inflation
Friend: evidently, i know far less about anything
Me: okay, so how come inflation is so much higher today and it continues to rise, yet our productivity has increased enormous amounts, which means things today SHOULD be cheaper but they aren't?
Me: instead everything gets more expensive
Friend: if i had the guts i'd kill myself
Friend: the truth is
Friend: the world is mediocre
Friend: there is no grand conspiracy or political mahciavellian plot
Friend: because actually, nobody cares enough to do that
Me: so I guess the Real ID act is just an april fools joke, right?
Me: and so is the RFID Verichip?
Me: which, by the way, has already been used
Me: and the fact that the actual plan to abolish the Canadian, US, and Mexico borders have been broadcasted already
Me: I mean, sometimes I feel that maybe it's best these things happen because it's the only way that people who don't believe this stuff will actually realize it's true
Friend: people should grow up
Friend: the RFID isn't going to kill democracy
Me: lol I see what you're doing
Me: you're doing the stick-the-head-in-the-sand thing
Friend: i envy you, i really do. i wish i could maintain a belief in thta sort of world
Friend: i wish there was an enemy to fight
Friend: butwe're chasing phantoms
Friend: the world is too prosperous
Me: well, it's pretty easy to believe this stuff when i've been in the military, I saw shady things first hand over-seas in Afghanistan
Friend: so what? we have no great problems left
Friend: we wnat a conspiracy so bad
Friend: because it gives meaning
Friend: the reality is things are too stable in our world
Me: lmao
Friend: i say, look towards africa
Friend: once africa is modernized
Me: which will be never
Friend: the human race will meet its true demise
Me: we'll all be chipped before that happens
Friend: bordeom
Me: only ill be dead
Friend: paradise is doom
Me: YOU will be chipped
Friend: i'd welcome chipping, if it ever happens
Friend: it probably won't
Friend: people will make a fuss
Friend: and the government won't care enough to bother
