Thread: Decent quads for a tall guy? (small sized pic warning)

Decent quads for a tall guy? (small sized pic warning)

Screen cap of Nathan Jones from the movie troy.

You don't really see his legs much, in any of the films he has been in, Protector, Fearless, or Troy.

Until I found this screen-cap. It is a Small image, but it does look like he at least works his quads.

Not much in the calf department, but he is like 6'10".

Does it look to others like that is decent leg development for a guy who is almost 7ft?

The two larger pics he was down in weight, only about 295-310 pounds. In the pic where it is him and another wrestler (red trunks) and in the movie troy he was around supposedly 330-340 pounds, and those were taken about 6 months later.

when he's standing in the ring they look decent, which may have a lot to do with his foot positioning. for being 7 feet tall he undoubtedly has some good size. of course it looks different on someone 5 feet tall.

By bodybuilding standards, especially today compared to guys like Jay cutler or Markus Ruhl, or even any of the IFBB guys really, or the thicker NPC guys, no Jones would not have "good" legs.

I was just considering that for a guy who is 1.5"-2" shy of being 7ft tall, and Not being a competative bodybuilder he has "decent" legs.

I know for a fact, and this was filmed, durring a WSM heat, in 1996, Jones deep-squated (going down way past parallel) 627 pounds, or 285 kg.

Supposedly, he was also able to squat 365kg, or 802 pounds (only to parallel however) at the 1995 Australian Powerlifting championships.

There is only one other guy on earth that tall or taller with quads that thick, and that is Mark "Conan" Stevens, http://conanstevens.com .

If anyone can name a guy with under 12% bodyfat, who is 6’10”+ and has better quads than either of these two I would be very surprised.

Quad size has nothing to do with height. There are guys over 6' at my gym with quads as big as or bigger than mine. I don't get your point. Don't use being tall as an excuse to not have legs.

I agree that being tall is no excuse to not have legs, but the guy can deep squat 600+ pounds, and parallel 800.

If he can deep squat 600+ he definitely was not using his height as an excuse to not train legs.

Either way, at 7ft (or 6’10”) there is a big difference than 6ft.

You may know some guys who are over 6ft, with thick legs, but do you know any who have legs thicker than Jones had, for the Troy shoot (when he was 340 pounds), who are also 6’10” or taller?

That is the difference of 12 more inches than a 5'10" bodybuilder , and 60% of that increased length in the femur.

Length of the leg does effect how thick they can get. The bone is 40% longer, yet only 20% thicker around. This is why you will not see legs like jay Cutler 5'9", on a guy who is a full foot taller than him. Even if they used the same weights, and the same drugs, and has a similar response to the drugs too, the thighs may be the same circumference, however a 34” Quad just does not look the same on a 7ft man as it looks on a 5’9” man. Even if the strength is the same too.

For a 7fter to have the equivalent of a 34” quad on a shorter guy, he would need 39” quads, and that just ain’t going to happen.

agreed, height gives an illusion of having a smaller circumference

    Ok, I'll make this shorter:

    Over 6'10"

    I meant 6 foot, and TEN inches+.

I never said over 6ft (there are a lot of guys who are < 6'6" with huge quads) I meant over 6-10, or close to 7ft.

Find a guy with better Quads than Jones, or Conan Stevens, who is at least 6-10.

Tony is over 6ft, and those are BIG quads, but he is FAR away from being 6-10.

He's rambling about nothing. Who give a shit number one. The guys legs aren't impressive. If you think so, you need to train legs.

FYI, calling someone stupid is a flame. Maybe I should report you. How many times have you been suspended? Maybe if I'm lucky you'll be banned.

Go ahead and report it. Where does it say calling someone stupid is a flame? That is your opinion that you are stating as fact. Typical.

I've never been suspended, what about you?

I have no reason to ever get suspended. I give everyone the highest level of respect to everybody until given a reason not to. I joke around 99% of the time, and if I do offend somebody, I apologize and mean it sincerely. In six years here I have never had a problem with anybody (with one exception). Its all good.

Fair...very nice size...just dont assume that everybody must just accept that your quads are a good benchmark without providing the evidence.

Size of my quads? Question is irrelevant as i was not offering up my quads as a measuring standard.
But I will admit they are poor in comparison with yours.

Perhaps when I made the thread I should have asked the question:

Do "Jone's legs match his arms?", instead of "are they decent legs?"

As for all I know Carlos may think that the legs do match the arms, but that the arms are not good either.

I think both are decent for a guy almost 7ft tall, and very good by my standards, but everyone's subjective opinion is different.

Any particular reason why you care? You're not Nathan Jones are you? If you're Nathan you look AWESOME! Keep bangin' the weights. Reach your potential!!!!
