    Hard Choice

well i have this really hard choice i need to be making. well ive only got 3 months left of high school then i graduate and go to college but i dont have the money for college there is really one way to do it sign up for national gaurd and they have really good deals as of sign on bonus of $20,000 then they pay for college food dorm room etc... and they pay you every month from then on while in college. but the problem is i have a girlfriend one year younger then me so instead of not getting to see her muhc cuz college it will be longer cuz i would have to go to boot camp over my whole summer vacation but really not the point i think i could last without seeing her but who here thinks this would be a good offer i did all the math and i would be comming out of college with $97,000 if i save it all and not spend what isnt ment to be spent so anyone out there know alot about this kind of stuff you think it will be worth it cuz they would be paying for my college and all that stuff so any responses would be helpful thanks

guard is a good idea.. personally for convience sake i would go w/ air national guard as alot of their avionics skills can easily be transferrable to civilian life.

Now listen to me... Because I was in the exact same situation as you are right now. I was in highschool when I joined the DEP (Delayed Entry Program) for the Marine Corps. I was due to get shipped out 2 months after graduation. However, I had a gf at the time who I really cared about and was in love with. Over the course of my senior year I started to sway away from joining because I didn't want to leave my girl behind. In the end I left the DEP program (had a great job lined up and everything) and decided to try out Junior College. Big mistake, over the course of my semester our relationship was going downhill and she eventually left me in December (right as school ended). It was a big shock to me but I continued on into the next semester but really wasn't mature enough to go through with all my classes (I was too drinking and partying). This went on for about another semester until I finally decided to join the military again... Did some more research, and decided to go with Air Force instead. So listen to me man... You're young, and you have your whole life ahead of you. If you don't have the funds for college, join the service... You'll get to see your girl after your technical school for a short time, and hell, try to get stationed in your state and more then likely you'll probably get to. Not to mention how much fun you're going to have in the military. Do not make my same mistake, I wasted probably a year of my life in a limbo spending money on shit deciding what I want to do... When I had the chance to do it at the beginning...

woe, woe, everyone slow down... getting tuition assistance is only one variable to consider... I don't know how many dudes signed up and said crap I only did it for the money and now i am here risking my life??? you need to come to terms with
a.) there is a possibility of being deployed and losing your life..
b.) even higher possiblity that your girl won't be here when you return...

so I want you to think about those two things for starters... and remember there are other ways to go to school besides the military so don't get too focused on that as the only way.

true, and the branch and job u sign up for are huge factor as well.
if you sign up for navy or airforce and go into an electronic field, its very unlikely to see any fire, though when deployed in any sandbox area there is always chance of gettin bombed but they kept me on back lines and sent me the parts to fix for the laser guided weaponry then we ship them back to em
