Good Political Books?
Lately politics have become really interesting to me and I'd like to read up as much as I can before I go to bootcamp. I'm currently looking at a few books by Ron Paul but I want to know some of the best books out by Democrats & Republicans alike.. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you interested in the Classics, the Ancients, or the Moderns?

I'm about halfway thru Karl Marx's book and it is very repetitive... He could have saved himself a lot of time and just summed up 70 pages of nonsense into 1...

Ya, the US Constitution, for sure.
If there's a used book store in your area, you could pick up a used history textbook for cheap. Nothing puts Today in perspective quite like knowing what happened yesterday, last week, last year, etc.
You might chance across a used introduction to Government textbook, too. It's kinda interesting . . . especially when you get involved in it with other people. Pick a political party you sympathize with, and get involved to help get someone elected. Learn the rules that regulate how people get elected, how $$$ gets collected and spent. It beats video games . . .

Go to antiwar.com and look around on there for info on books and other publications, especially Justin Raimondo. Also, watch news casts and political programs on the CBC, BBC and ITI -- US news casts don't paint an accurate portrayal of news/current events. Books by Chris Matthews and watch his 'Hardball' show; likewise with Keith Olbermann and 'Countdown', also Jim Lehrer's news reports and specials.

i don't understand what exactly are you looking for. I think you would like something like state of denial by bob woodward.
Marx's Manifesto is political theory. Be careful. The book is a summary of complex economical theory. it was directed to the working classes. That's the reason of its simplicity.

The Federalists Papers by Alexander Hamilton, John Jay, and James Madison
The Wealth of Nations by Adam Smith
Common Sense by Thomas Paine
The 5000 Year Leap by W. Cleon Skousen (I highly recommend this book to understand what the founders were trying to achieve with the constitution and how they achieved it. This book is essential.)
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand (more about economics, but economics ties into everything in government)
As was said, Liberal Facism by Jonah Goldberg is a great book. As for Ron Paul, you can find a lot of his books online for free here: http://www.ronpaullibrary.org/books.php.
