    improving short-term memory

does anyone know of any methods used that could potentially help short-term memory? Or has anybody done anything that helped improve theirs? sounds odd i know, but, I have learned over the years ive been using this board, that someone, somewhere, will likely have advice.

Try the memory game. I know it might sound retarded but it works for lil kids. Your mind will force itself to remember where the card is and then take it from there. I have also heard that Gensing(spell check) helps with short term memory. Hope that helps

look at nootropics or smart drugs. many of these have been shown to boost cognitive function.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nootropic

there is a link to get you started. I have tried some different nootropics to see how they affected my OCD. Results varied from some that had noticable benefits to no results at all. St Johns Wort and Phenbut both helped me with OCD but they are not really any good for improved memory. Tried 5htp and will never use again as it gave me sleep paralyisis several times and it was scary as hell (you think someone or something is in the room with you but you cant move - horrible).

try counting. It will help your IQ but better your recall (shortterm memory)

Like say write a list of numbers on a page and either read them or get some one to read them for you, then repeat them after read.
like start with one number then 2 then 3 then 4. keeping the same set of numbers but adding a number each time.
    Try these:

Call these out as you read each number on a line, once you finish the line close your eyes and repeat what you just read out. Once you have done move to the next line down..
    243
    2437
    24379
    243792
    2437925
    24379254
    243792540
    2437925401
    24379254017
    243792540172
    2437925401725

its easy to get up to about 10 but gettign more doubles in difficulty.
It is a shock how much you can recal when you try.
Some of the best in the world have a recal of hundreds.
you can also use this technique with playing cards.

To improve one........what is this thread about again?

I find exercising your cognitive abilities help, it seems the more I read and especially the more I read and do exercises like accounting and finance where you use formulas and stuff really help make your abilities sharp.
