GLENN: Well, the New Black Panthers have endorsed Barack Obama which I'm sure he was thrilled about. Now, there is the New Black Panthers, the endorsement made it up onto Obama's website. However, I didn't see it before it was taken down and I'm not sure -- I can't come to you and tell you that it was posted by Barack Obama's people. It may have been posted in a public area. That's what Barack Obama is saying, right? That's what his people are saying, that that was posted in some site where they don't have -- some part of the site where they don't have control over? Yeah, so I'd like to know what that means. I don't give him the benefit of the doubt anymore. Lie to me once, you've proven that you're just a regular politician, and you've lied to me once. But it doesn't matter. I mean, you know, I can't believe that Barack Obama would be proud of the Black Panthers endorsing him, but Malik Shabazz, who is the head of the Black Panthers was on Fox early this morning and I was listening to it and I thought to myself, holy cow, listen to what the man is saying. Now, he's saying it in a very reasonable way. But remember he's the leader of the New Black Panthers. But listen to what he has to say. Here's the interview from fox.

VOICE: He said that the U.S. Government created the AIDS virus to perpetrate genocide against its own people. Do you agree with that?

SHABAZZ: Well, my colleagues in my legal organization, Black Lawyers For Justice and other --

GLENN: Stop, stop. Hey, Stu.

STU: Yes.

GLENN: What do you say me and my colleagues get together and we do a White Lawyers For Justice?

STU: People would love that. They would embrace it.

GLENN: They would.

STU: It would be celebrated by all major media.

GLENN: It would just be consistent, wouldn't it?

STU: Yeah. I know that's important to the media, I know that's important to politicians.

GLENN: I'm thinking about starting White Lawyers For Justice.

SHABAZZ: Attorneys, we have researched this and there's a debate out. It has not been disproven, nor has it been proven, but our evidence shows that the United States government is in the business of biological weapons.

GLENN: Stop. Hang on just a second. So this is kind of like the thing that I had a problem with with Hillary Clinton where she said Barack Obama's not a Muslim that I know of, right? There's a theory out there. There's a theory out there.

SHABAZZ: That Fort Dietrich, Maryland is a suspect in this and that the World Health Organization has evidences that tends to show that smallpox vaccine was used to spread AIDS in Africa.

GLENN: Stop, stop. Stu, could you do a quick web search on that?

GLENN: No, no. Try to find it not in a blog. The World Health Organization has evidence that the smallpox vaccine was the initial source? Is that what he said? The initial source?

STU: I've heard the big -- vaccinations are blamed kind of for everything, particularly something you can't explain very well, it's automatically blamed on a vaccination.

GLENN: Oh, then you know what? Then maybe the media not understanding the Jeremiah Wright story, maybe it was caused by some sort of a vaccine.

GLENN: And maybe the fact that 50% of America's just not outraged by this must be the diptheria vaccine that you got when you were a kid. Maybe 50% of the population just got stupid from it.

SHABAZZ: It was not unfounded that AIDS is not natural but a manmade virus. That's a strong belief.

VOICE: You really think that --

GLENN: Stop. Did you hear that? It's not natural. It's manmade and that's a strong belief.

VOICE: Given all that the government has done to try to fight AIDS, given all the money that's been spent, given all the volunteer work that Americans have done to combat AIDS in this country and Africa that the government is perpetrating? To what end? Why is the government --

And then he told his congregation that he loved them and asked the church to tell each other they loved themselves.
His sermon thesis:

1. This is a time for self-examination of ourselves and our families.

2. This is a time for social transformation (then he went on to say they won’t put me on PBS or national cable for what I’m about to say. Talk about prophetic!)

“We have got to change the way we have been doing things as a society,” he said.

Wright then said we can’t stop messing over people and thinking they can’t touch us. He said we may need to declare war on racism, injustice, and greed, instead of war on other countries.

“Maybe we need to declare war on AIDS. In five minutes the Congress found $40 billion to rebuild New York and the families that died in sudden death, do you think we can find the money to make medicine available for people who are dying a slow death? Maybe we need to declare war on the nation’s healthcare system that leaves the nation’s poor with no health coverage? Maybe we need to declare war on the mishandled educational system and provide quality education for everybody, every citizen, based on their ability to learn, not their ability to pay. This is a time for social transformation.”

3. This is time to tell God thank you for all that he has provided and that he gave him and others another chance to do His will.

By the way, nowhere in this sermon did he said “God damn America.” I’m not sure which sermon that came from.
This doesn’t explain anything away, nor does it absolve Wright of using the N-word, but what it does do is add an accurate perspective to this conversation.

The point that I have always made as a journalist is that our job is to seek the truth, and not the partial truth.

I don't agree with the guy's statements but they spun the hell out of it. They took several sermons and pieced them together to make it seem like the entire sermon was full of hate speech. Everyone is up in arms about this guy but what about Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson? These guys said the same type of hate speech blamming 9/11 and Katrina on abortion and gays.
