I joined a new gym 2 weeks ago. Its never very busy and usually filled with the same people everyday. Rather than the skinny guys my age being decent and saying hello they basically watch me work out and talk shit about how I must be on something. Anyone thats had this experience knows exactly what im referring to. Its sorta like when chicks sit in a group and talk shit about the cute girl across the room.

this doesnt really piss me off, but not sure why it happens... why do some girls need to get all done up to go to the gym? Do they not plan on sweating? Got this pair of girls who "train" together, one drives her X5 and the other has an escalade and they walk in wearing club wear and then get changed into all brand name "high end" work out gear, sometimes overpriced subglasses, big earrings, bright flourescent pink lipstick to accent there overtanned skin, and then pull their ponytails through a prada and LV ball type cap... Really?
Shit, the total cost of my workout gear is like $60 and that includes my iPod and shoes...

People who dress matching. Matching is fine but when you have a "livestrong" shirt, jacket, pants, shoes, and gloves.....that is so freakin stupid. Other than that nothing bothers me. People get outta my way!

^^^^ There is a girl here that uses the elliptical. She isn't totally done up like you are talking about, but she is well put together and always cute. But, she walks on the machine at what must be .25 miles per hour. Slower than she walks through the gym. Girls that have their outfit together, but waste time in the gym leave me confused.
There is another girl in her early 20s that shows up in gym shorts (like from high-school), a plain t-shirt and her hair in a pony tail. She is cute, but doesn't seem to think the gym is a place to be dressed up. She busts out reps like there is no tomorrow. That girl works. I heart her (in a totally, "she could be my daughter" kind of way).

That's how my wife is. She don't give a damn. She does 5x5 lifts so that's why I married her.

thats cool man. Those girls really impress me. They know they look good cause they worked to get there, dont come to the gym to flirt, do their workout and leave... I really like the hardcore ones who have their music going, lifting respectable weights, working up a sweat and when a guy comes over to hit on them, pretends she cant hear them or better yet, heard this one time "if you spent as much time training as you do trying to pick up women in here, you'd have a much better body"... had me a good laugh

I Must add, that I get pissed off on days like today when my gym has "SPECIAL CHRISTMAS EVE" hours posted for several weeks and then is LATE opening up the gym in the morning by 30 minutes...

I don't like it...
- When a group of friends tag-team and spend over an hour on one piece of vital equipment - like the cage. Ivariably, despite sharing between three people, they still need long pauses standing around talking about the club they're going to after the gym.
- People who get testy from less experienced people asking for advice. Be nice people; it's a compliment.
- When someone stays in the cage to do dumbells.
- When people drop weights REALLY hard, seemingly to attract attention.
But most of all, when i feel depressed because that guy with the smashed shoulder has come back from injury and put on 10+ kg in the time i put on 1kg. He had 'help'.

It all depends on the crowd you associate with. 'Belonging' is what it's all about, and the branding is all about the *ugh* lifestyle *ugh* you want.
A friend of mine thinks he needs to wear the most torn up, grungy gym gear or he's not 'hardcore' enough.
Me? I tend to try to wear what makes me feel good (best suites my physique). No brands though. I'm slim, so i need to do everything i can to feel better about myself in the gym.

I think its soooo annoying and inconsiderate when people stand right infront of the mirror, blocking the weights and do like a million reps!!! Grrr! I also dont like when I can hear people say stuff about me being a girl in the weight room I need to workout too!!!

So its leg day and im at the gym and its leg day Ive alrady banged out half of my workout and what do I notice the new years resolution fatties are in and one is occupying the machine I was about to use this doesn't bother me so I sit 2 machines down waiting for it . 5 minutes go by and I realize this 5'2" 240 lb landwhale is doing sets of three using 20 lbs on the leg extension machine I think to myself its fine she'll be done soon next thing I know the lady is taking 5 minute breaks not getting off the machine my blood slowly starts to boil. 10 minutes go by and the landwhale is exausted for 3x3 of the lightest possible weight and decides to get off the machine , as I walk over to the machine another much larger land whale sees it runs cuts me off and then engulfs the machine I try to keep cool and wait some more this lady does 1 set of 5 using 20 lbs and then takes 3 minute break and shes not allowing people to cut in now im pissed another 3 minutes land whale finishes her 2nd set of 5 and leaves. Finally the leg extension machine is mine and I use the anger to drive me through the rest of my workout went 20 lbs heavier on each remaining exercise FvCKING new years people can't they just die of a mac attack and leave the gyms to the people who actually workout.
This wouldn't bother me as much either if the land whales would learn that minimal sets of minimal weight excercises wouldn't help as much as much as actually getting on a do I dare say it TREADMILL.

It bugs me that these people actually think there doing doing themselves a favor by coming to the gym either over training undertraining or doing everything improper and not even either taking advice or taking a step back and think about what there doing . Today there was a 240 lb guy doing hammer curls with horrible from hes was rocking like crazy and even jumping on one or 2 reps trying to do 35 lbs (almost looked like he was trying to flap his arms with the weight) so i walked up asked what exercise he was doing he told me hammer curls I explained to him nicely that what he was doing was improper form and that maybe he should lower the weight and that I could show him proper form the guy start to blow up saying he knows what hes doing and that hes older etc etc meanwhile before when I was talking to him he said that he had just started working out because it's the new year and that its time for better habbits WTF !!!! I have no problem with a person who wants to turn their life around and maybe get a little more in shape but if they're not gonna take the time to do it properly maybe eat healthier and do some actual cardio you know the type of exercise that burns fat not flapping your damn flippers and trying to breach though the air GTFO theres at least 20 of them in there at once its agitating ALOT.
Also I second the notion on landwhale being a board term

I'm not sure if you saw my post from about a year ago or more very similar but also about the FAT guy at my gym who I saw a few times in the cardio room sitting on a bike for over 30 minutes not even doing 1 revolution just watching TV. What did he think he would gain from that? Most of them think that just by joining people will think they are putting in an effort so being fat isnt their fault.
I like the term Land Whale also. Fitting.

Exactly they think well if I show up its not my fault and it looks like they're putting in effort and the rest of them the ones who don't show up will even admire them for it but in the meantime if they just put in the real effort into diet and learning how to properly exercise they would find its not that hard but I guess they don't realize that there are no cheats to getting into shape. Also my gym has a cardio cinema room I haven't checked in there yet who knows I might meet the guy your talking about XD

OUCH. I was the "landwhale" a few years ago. I grew up playing sports even D2 football. But got married and FAT. Then I "wanted" to get back in shape and I was that guy going to the gym and putting in work but no attention to diet. My form was also sh!t because I was trying to lift like I was 20 again. It took about a year and a half for me to learn DIET and exercise. But I lost the weight in the privacy of my own person gym. I know first hand how tough it is for a fattie to go to a gym loaded with a bunch of yoked up and fit people. Hell when I lived in LA I used to say "you have to be fit to go to the gym, not get fit there."
While I can emphasize with frustration of noobs getting in the way of your lifts, can some of you emphasize with people who might not have a clue but a strong desire to climb the massive hill of "getting fit". Also if anybody came up to me a criticized my form my already fragile ego couldn't take it. So while there is a HUGE amount of people who made resolutions to get fit. Maybe many of us fit gym goers could make the resolution to "have patience for a month" and suck it up? I mean this morning I saw many of my Facebook friends complaining about how sore they are from their workouts yesterday. My money is on the weight room being a little lighter in attendance today.
Besides the new people that signed a two year contract and will shortly stop attending are AWESOME! They keep your gym afloat AND don't hog equipment.Last edited by evander87; 01-04-2012 at 11:34 AM.

I have nothing against heavy people at the gym. I am usually cheering for them if they make it past a few weeks. However, people need to pay attention to what is going on around them and get in the groove. Not just in the gym, but everywhere.

Yea, my gym decided they could increase the number of NewYears people signing up by creating a daycare center for the kids while the parents workout and my ipod turned all the way up can't drown out the sound of kids screaming and fighting. If it wasn't a 24/7 gym I would go crazy!

The pt's look like a flock of bronzed110lb greased up, collar poppin pretty boys that have never picked up a weight.. fvckin clowns..
On top of that my membership price more than doubled!Last edited by jasc; 01-05-2012 at 10:27 AM.
