Well our uk gallon = 1.2 us gallons,
fuel is on average £1.20 per litre,
4.5 litres per uk gallon
= £5.40
x 0.833 (to conver to us gallon)
= £4.49
£4.49 = $8.78

A car uses 1.6 ounces of gas idling for one minute. Half an ounce is used to start the average automobile!

Whats the average wage in the usa though???
Here we have a legal minimum wage (about £5.50 - $10.86) which ALL jobs must pay minimum.
Average wage of the country is £13,000 - $25,676
But many on normal jobs (cleaner, factory work, lower office work) earn £8,000-11,000 ($5,126 - $7,048)
Rent for a small 2 bedroom place is an ok area (round my area) is about £600-£800 per month ($384 - $512)

You save .30 cents per gallon with these prepaid gas cards. I seen it on the local news yesterday and they really work.

I'm cheap, I admit it, and I'm honestly debating just ONLY driving when I have too.
Think about what people pay on average to drive. I have a pickup, I get about 17mpg. Granted I am a contractor, I drive a ton doing bids. They are about to be done on a rice burner though.
I have investment properties that cost 1/2 of what it takes for normal american's to drive a month.
Car Payment approx $300
Insurance $150
General Maintinace $50 (Oil changes, tiers ever year, any think that breaks on average)
Gas $200-$400 (I spend well over $400)
People are paying at least $700 to drive. If I had a normal job I drove too every day, being 27 with no kids, I would use public transportation if it was available. That's more than some of my house payments. People are nearing 10k a year to drive when the average income is in the mid 30k's.
Last year I paid off everything I drive, I put the lowest insurance I could on everything. I now won't spend over 5-6k on car or truck. If I get in an accident, I'll replace it. I've not been in one in 11 years so the insurance company has already done okay off of me.
