Passwords for Pc's are pretty easy to get around, if your son is a nerd it wont take him long to figure it out.

If your using windows id just suggest you do the basic stuff an see who that goes.

Make sure there is only one account with Administrator rights, then make a difficult password like 3 letters upper case 3 letters lower case 3 numbers 3 characters like the one i use for here is -k1Ck3d.1n_Da-8A7L5*

This has more than one type of character namely 5 numbers 5 lowercase letters 4 uppercase letters and 5 characters.... all are totally random but looking closely spell out kicked in da balls....

Anyway im joking i dont use this password. It would prove near impossible to crack by common means, start with something like this.

Passwords should be easy to remember, but if you follow a rule such as this, you will find its easy to forget them... i have to ue this kind of passowrd for my academy online access and i forget it all the time, so make sure yours in memorable.

This is a good way to help prevent your son from getting on the computer.

1.) setup a screensaver with a minute standby time, which is passworded.

2.) theirs a way to get by the login screen in windows XP, buy going into safe mode and logging into a hidden ADMIN account. So go into safe mode, login to the Admininstrator account, and set a password for it.

These two things will help prevent your kid from getting on.

Of course theirs a program iam sure he knows about which is a bootdisk which can get into any windows computer with admin rights.

Ive heard of bootdisks that get you into windows by resetting the admin password.. but he would immediately know that his kid reset the password the next time he got on.

If you have a router. You can also set the times that the router is allowed to surf or not surf. You would need a password for the router as well. This is a way to set it on multiple computers at once w/ one password. The only way around this is to reset the router. You would obvisously know that it was reset.

There are also programs out there that will lockdown programs with a password.

is there certain websites that you dont want him surfing.. or is it just the internet in general that you dont want him on..

if your looking to boot him off a few websites, do this trick.
go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and right click on a file called hosts and open it with notepad.
it should look like this by default(maybe with a couple extra entries from software.)
    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    127.0.0.1 localhost
now copy what i write and replace the website names after the IP address(number array if you really dont know what IP is)
    66.249.93.99 www.example.com
    66.249.93.99 example.com

    or a more realistic example
    66.249.93.99 www.somepornsite.com
    66.249.93.99 somepornsite.com
    66.249.93.99 www.buydrugsfromme.com
    66.249.93.99 buydrugsfromme.com
You add the variation of names because the DNS in simple terms... relays the IP address with the name typed in... so for any website you dont want him accessing... it will show that www.whatever.com has loaded... but it will load google :P.

also copy everything that you list to be blocked under the last entry.
in the end it should look something like this

    66.249.93.99 www.example.com
    66.249.93.99 example.com
    66.249.93.99 www.somepornsite.com
    66.249.93.99 somepornsite.com
    66.249.93.99 www.buydrugsfromme.com
    66.249.93.99 buydrugsfromme.com
when youve added all the entries you want blocked just save it(either file->save or ctrl + S)

if you need any other help with tottally blocking him out, just pm me..
i make a living out of this lol.

If your not a nerd alot of the info posted may be to much of a pain in the ass for you to deal with. You might want to consider a program called netnanny it has features that will allow you to control everything done on your computer and limit areas. It will also allow you to view what your son has been doing on the computer and find out where he gets all the good porn
I install the program for alot of parents simply because the computer prevents them from doing there homework.

This was your question, "so he can not get on the internet"

why not just create a user profile that has limited access to files/folder
you've not stated what O/S your using, also you can set up filters on your firewall as well as in parent sites etc..

One thing you can try is by going to the tools tab on your browser and then click on the Content tab and then the content advisor. You set this up with a password. That will stop some of it.

A bit of FREE SOFTWARE is k9protect

    HERE

    hope this helps
