well im on the concept of chirality, the concept is really simple but im having a hard time visualizing the molecule in space and then mirror image. Do you know any tricks?

it's better to visualize it as fisher projections in there elcipsed form rather than using stero-isomers in there staggered form...

    hope it helps

We're on that exact topic right now.

I gotta start paying attention in class and quit doing the "Ill sleep in class and just study when the test comes up"

Cuz its not working that well

Faizaka is dead on. Basically since hydrogen is always your '4th' numerically ordered subsitiuent you are looking down the hydrogen bond at a fischer projection. Visualizing it like this will help you determine r and s molecules. Oh and the best think for organic chem before you get to reactions is to do problem after problem after problem til your brain bleeds, and work them backwards too.

Most PT schools I know only require org 1, but it looks good if you take org 2 and lab as well. They are not hard classes, just require time learning and applying the concepts, just like anything else. I thought organic and biochem were easy. Anatomy was pretty easy, just time consuming, and physiology was a hard, but fun. Medical microbiology and cell physiology are pretty hard, but that's the nature of the beast in science classes.

Yah My Anat+Phys II is so much friggin memorization...I thinkI know every hormone that exists after last week. Lab tests from my teacher so hard I sometimes laugh...100 blank lines...fill it in with everything...SURE!

Yep, just had my anatomy practical midterm 150 blanks, 5 cadavers....mmmmm. BTW, schmidty, takin org over the summer is a great option. I took org II and superlab over summer directly after org 1, and it was a piece of cake. I think org 2 is easier anyways.

i really dont like newman projections and taking the time to write every molcule out with a newman projection would take too long in a test with 50 minutes

Are you serious? It's extremely easy, takes about 5 seconds max to do. The only way else I could think of doing it is...well...nope thats it. Practice it, i can look at a chiral carbon and name it within seconds...extremely easy.

Chiral what...Im horrible at chemistry to begin with...Bio I can manage and anatomy im abusing...I like things that are more closely relevant to the human body I guess.

Your university should carry some sort of orgo modeling kits, otherwise you can find them online for fifteen dollars or so. I found those pretty useful, even with being able to mentally rotate an image in 3-space moderately well.

why bump a 1.5 year old thread on the subject? Can't help you, I took organic but that was like 8 years ago. I liked to take extra of my ADD meds and stay up all night and study, then crash after.

Organic chem has a lot of potential if you're a criminal.

I started reading it when I was 14 and was in jail exactly 5 years later. When I got out my PO told me that if I didn't change majors she'd violate me. So I switched to psych.

Chemistry was always my favorite subject. But a lot of its real world application violates US law if you aren't legally certified.. and even when you are theres still too many limits, well at least for me.

wow.......I know of a guy, who had a buddy that caught his prof having his students synthesize illegal off topics.....he took that guys job to say the least...

is you really have a love for chem, is there any hope that they would let you do good with it?
