To the Guys that own Bikes

I am currently deciding between a new 2008 CBR 1000RR, a Triumph 675 Daytona, and an R1. Anyone have any suggestions, or personal experiences? I know the Triumph is a 675cc bike, but there is something about it that I really like. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Great question! If this is your first bike, do you really need 1000+ CC? I am 270 lbs and my Katana 750 moves me just fine.

All great bikes, if it's your first bike that will be a factor. Check the album in my profile and you will see how my taste runs.

Should have cleared this up earlier. I have owned a '04 CBR600RR, as well as my first bike, which was a Suzuki GS500F. This will be my third bike, but even then, I don't know if I need a liter bike haha.

I like the CBR1000RR, I have been looking at a few used ones lately. The 08 is a nice bike, and I prefer Honda's over Yamahahahahahaha's.

If I had to choose from the ones you mentioned, I'd get a Schwinn.

i used to own a 600rr .... feels completely different than a 1krr, i would definately go for the R1 best all around liter bike in my opinion, if you can ride it hangs with the 1krr around corners and over accelerates it in the straight by alot.

A 1000cc bike is a huge diff from a 600. My question would be how long have you been riding???

But also keep in mind the new 600 are a world of different the an 04. I dot know much about the 675 other then its a first year bike with a few bugs. I know they have been blowing head gaskets.

Do you think your ready for a 1000. To tell you the truth a 1000 is not as much fun to ride as a 600. They have to much power at times.

Dot get me wrong the 1000 are great bikes. But you need to look at the riding you do and you riding skill level.

I have been riding for 4 years. To be honest, the CBR600 had enough power for me, and I feel very comfortable on it, but the buddies I ride with all have liter bikes and are convincing me to get one. I've taken theirs for test drives (an R1 and CBR1000) and never really felt uncomfortable on them, however I can see how their power is excessive. I'm pretty interested in the Daytona 955 that Dukkit mentioned
you can see it here: http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_.../photo_03.html
but don't know if I need that much power. Hopefully I just win the lottery and can buy an MV Agusta. Thanks for all your input.

Heh, I just bought a 2007 CBR1000RR Repsol that was laid down with some minor repair needed. Only has 1500 miles, got it for a steal. Pretty freaking fast.

if this is your first bike, muchless sportbike, I would stick with a 600. I rode the R1, I hated it, i think it's a terribly uncomfortable bike. I never got to ride the Daytona 675, but it was the bike that I was originally looking for.

I have you considered a gsxr750? To me the 750 is the best of both worlds. I have ridden all types of bikes 1000rr, gsxr1000's, 1098's, zx10's, R6, R1, etc and the 750 is by far my favorite bike. More low end and top end power then the 600 and a little less then a 1000. Liter bikes are kinda like a chore sometimes to ride. Keeping the front end down, throttle control threw turns, etc. Its a big step up from a 600 to a 1000 so just make sure your ready for it. Remember just cause the bike is faster doesn't mean its gonna make you faster.

Heh, I am so timid going through corners, I am hardly ever making corners very fast. I manage the bike well enough that keeping the front end down so that isn't that big of an issue. I just like opening up on straight aways.

I try to enjoy my rides more than anything, so I am hardly ever just ripping around places.

Rode the Daytona 675 and 955 today, both were great. Tomorrow I'm heading off to ride the Japanese bikes, but those Triumphs will be hard to beat.

I like my 1979 Triumph Bonneville Special, have yet to ride a bike with a smoother transmission.

Tried the Japanese bikes today, and all rode nicely. Damn you guys for suggesting the gixxer 750, because it has made my decision much more complicated. My final decision is coming down to the Daytona 675, 955, and the gixxer 750. The gixxer is looking better and better, because I don't think I need all the power that the 955 has. It really is a bit of a chore to ride, as some of you have said. Thanks everyone for your help so far.

From the looks of it the gsxr750 makes the same if not more power then the 955.
