    My Hancock review...

Let me begin by saying that "Wanted" is a VERY good action movie (reviewed in an earlier thread), and that the stunts, effects, dialogue, casting and premise are all well aligned to this end.

However, "Hancock" is a very good FILM. Containing all of the above characteristics it also possesses the unique ability to make one feel along the way as you laugh, cry and cheer through the final scene (for which you’ll need to wait about 90 seconds after fading to black). Both films feature a surprise twist, but the latter does so in far a more entertaining fashion. The language certainly warrants this PG-13 rating, so you may not want to take little ones, but as with most Will Smith July 4th weekend films, it too appeals to the testosterone -challenged segment of the population!!!

Of course, and one would think this goes without saying but it rarely does so, if you're not a fan of superheroes (famous or otherwise) just steer clear. In other words, please don't mistake my review of this SUPERHERO MOVIE, for something that it isn't...thank you and enjoy!

Action junkies may also want to place these as yet little publicized movies on the radar:

Saving it for the kids, and we usually go a couple of weeks out to avoid the rush, but the trailers I've seen are marvelous!

I am getting tired of seeing Will Smith saving the world. He is always playing the same character.

he always saves the world because He is a good man and you can believe in him to save the world. He is good in the pursuit of happiness did not save the world just his family. we need people like him to remind us what matters. it gets blurry between reality tv show re-runs and trashy gossip mags and shows.

    Very good rebuttal.

    -----------------------

Although he is often a savior of some-thing/-one/-place with cop credentials or qualities, the characters, scenarios and conditions of said salvation vary enough to warrant continued interest. But yeah, he and Martin Lawrence are indeed most often cop-ish:
    • Bad Boys I & II - He's just a good-hearted, trust funded, playboy cop.
    • Independence Day - Chip on his shoulder having, alien fighting military pilot pseudo-cop.
    • Enemy of the State - On the run, fighting the powers that be lawyer/citizen who was the mock-up of a cop.
    • WWWest - Savvy, mild-mannered gun slinging, ice water in his veins, old west secret service cop.
    • Men in Black I, II & III - Street smart, hood hardened/trained extra-terrestrial monitoring above the system cop.
    • IRobot - Uniquely qualified, surgically enhanced, overly suspicious future cop.
    • Shark Tale - Animated, grandiose dreaming, underwater shark gangster policing, heroic near cop.
    • I Am Legend - Futuristic military scientist, mutated society battling, humanity preserving semi-cop.
    • Hancock - Planet protecting, supernatural power possessing, bad guy stopping superhero cop.

    -------

But conversely there are several films/roles in which he has clearly displayed both comedic and dramatic range/depth that were not even cop-related such as:
    • Six Degrees of Separation
    • Made in America
    • The Legend of Bagger Vance
    • Ali
    • Hitch

Personally, I like the guy and his films. To paraphrase SVT, "You get your money's worth out of Will."
