Anyone recommend any good books?
Hi guys.
At the moment I have a bit of free time on my hands but find I don't have much to do with it, so I was wondering if anyone could recommend any good books to read?
Im mostly into fiction but wouldn't be averse to reading a good auto-biography on someone interesting. Last year I managed to read the Harry Potter series over the summer, brilliant books. Im usually a fan of quite dark, gritty stuff, Thomas Harris, Stephen King, etcetera...but im finding there doesn't seem to be anything interesting out there at the moment (certaintly not from Stephen King)
So yeah, some suggestions and why you're recommending that book would be good.
Thanks.

It's not fiction or a biography, but if you like books that really make you think, and you enjoy a good science vs. religion debate, read "The Case for a Creator" by Lee Strobel. One of the best books I ever read. Pretty much debunks a lot of what we were taught in school about science and e v o l u t i o n, and the creation of existence. Has many interviews with well known and renowned scientist who confess that despite all the scientific evidence we have for things, the presence of a higher power "creator" is needed.
If you read it with an opened mind, you will get a lot out of it.

I know, I even posted in RhulFreaks thread!
@Joe: I've not read any auto-biographies before, I guess I wouldn't mind reading about someone considered controversal, or someone whose had a tragic or/and hard life growing up. Someone like Bill Hicks or Henry Rollins?
@Dukkit: I was waiting for the obligatory Playboy suggestions. Ive got a couple, strictly for the sports section of course.
@Abbot: Cormac McCarthy rings a bell, hasnt that author done something on dragons before? IL defo give the Border Trilogy a go as I like a series of books sometimes.
@Milo: Hey, really nice suggestions. I love books that really make me think. I've always been a strong believer of science over religion but I like to consider myself with an open mind ready for anything else. Will defo give the Lee Strobel book a go when I go into WHS tmo as well as that Border Trilogy. Dont think WHSmiths do Playboys unfortunately DukkiT!

Read Choke by Chuck Palahnuik. Everything he writes is great but I found Choke to be the best and the movie bases on that book comes out on October.

Well went out today and bought a bunch of reading material, of which two books were by Chuck Palahnuik (how do you pronounce his surname?)
Fightclub and Haunted. Have no idea what the latter is about, but it kinda jumped out on me. Will be getting stuck into these books soon as.

"many lives, many masters", by dr. brian l. weiss.
he's a psychiatrist who does past life regression therapy,, this was his first book i believe from years back,, and he has a few follow-up books about the same topic.
even if you don't believe in reincarnation & past lives,, you won't be able to put this bitch down once you start it.Last edited by bd50; 08-15-2008 at 11:35 PM.

Terry Goodkind wrote a series called "The Sword Of Truth Series" There's 12 books total, 11 of which are 600 - 900 pages and one is a short novel. I absolutely guarantee you that if you read the first 100 pages of the first book (Wizards First Rule) You will not want to stop reading until you have read the entire series. Not only is it an awesome read but you actually learn things about yourself and how you do, and should, view the world around you. Morals, ethics and the very fabric of truth are explored in this series and I recommend it to anyone!

Ive been BIG into James Patterson lately. Especially the Alex Cross novels. If you have seen the movie 'Kiss the Girls' It is based on one of his novels. If your looking for a darker book, there is plenty to be found in this series.
