i still cant get over it.

My mind is killing my gains. I just can't seem to get over it in my head to go heavy heavy on squats without a spotter. 99% of the people in the gym don't know how to spot, esp with squats so i don't even waste my time asking them.I just do weight where i can get out 6-8 then drop it even though i know i could have another 2 maybe 3 in me but its always in the back of my mind getting stuck.

just set the bars as low as you want to go and let it fall if you need to. I feel a lot better about that then even a good spotter.

Maybe i will start using the squat box and see how that works. I normally use the squat rack that doesnt have the bars but allows for you to fall forward and sort of re-rack. Only problem with that is if i have heavy weight and i am stuck how am i going to fall forward ?

So i guess next week its box time.

set the bars just a couple inches below your normal squat depth so if you crash, there's not much room for it to fall. that or invite a real partner to start working out with you.

I find it helps to get pissed off. A little caffiene, some heavy music, and thinking of something that really gets to me takes my mind of the possibility of screwing up.

im in the same boat. ruhlfreak has a little different goals and we lift at different times, my roommate has a busy schedule and lifts at weird times of day, and my third option is about 70 lbs lighter than me.

if you set it up right it doesn't fall far and it's not like it hurts or anything. You're usually near the bottom when you fall. It took me awhile to get over it.

Gzzz, if I ever knew that about the dude I was spotting I'd kick his knees forward and lmao. "Wait, did I do it right now?"

If you squat in a power rack (or have access to one) id be doing what oneshot said.

If you squat in a sqyat rack then try doin a max effort squat that you know is too heavy. It will force you to crash out on the rack and that will help you overcome the 'head fuk' that failing is having over you.

I faced the same problem as I train alone (PowerLifter) and dont always go to a gym that has a power rack. 'Failing' on the squat rack will help you out, it did me.

if your gym has a squat machine you could always use that after u did as many sets freeweight that your comfortable with. then u could go as heavy as you want safely. i realize its not "hardcore" and its a machine but if you can get a good pump and it allows you to do more, than why wouldent you?, just a thought

Just be a noob and make up an excuse why you conveniently can't make it to the gym on your legs day.

i can't do squats safely at home due to lack of spotter and sturdy enough equipment. Instead i just do stationary lunges, about half the weight, and its still like a squat... just with one leg. A lot safer tho, if my leg fails, i still have my other leg to help me out

This is what I do and it works well. Once you get used to muscle failure in the box you will get more comfortable with it.

I work out with the juicers and it's really helped me out in more ways than one, its easier to squat 380lbs when a 220lb meat head doin grams of test a week is yelling at you from behind......too bad i've been sick the last few weeks, havent been able to hit heavy weights

at least i know somebody got my back

Thats a funny idea. I would imagine getting ready to do the first upward motion of the exercise and just sitting down on the bench and chilling instead.

i can't do a normal squat due to a back injury, even using a smith machine is pushing it, so i have to do it that way or i risk paralysis

where was your back injury? squats shouldn't affect the upper back and if you had a low back injury you aren't risky paralysis because the spinal cord terminates at L1-L2.

Also, sitting down onto a bench with all that weight on your shoulders is a lot worse on your back than squatting. When you sit you take away the all the cushion offered from the hips, knees, and ankles. When your but hits the bench it directs all that force right to the vertebral discs.

I've fallen doing squats. It's not that bad. I made the bad move of going right back to the gym on a monday after a weekend bodybuilding competition. I was worn out, still a little dehydrated and my electrolytes were all out of balance. I definately wasn't up to par and halfway through a set i just lost it and went down.
