Hey People,
I was just wondering how many firefighters were on this board. I was reading another Thread and there seemed to be alot. Do firefighting and A.S go hand and hand now?????:unsure:

How much hazmat training do you get? I am a Hazmat Technical with my fire department and we recieve a lot of training having to do with nuclear indicents, amonst many other hazardous materals.Quote:

The Plant has thier own Hazmat Team. But we do get 6 hour block of instruction(Its a sad joke). Our job really is to put out small fires and if something gets out of hand we contain it until the Local Fire Dept shows up. Last year we had a small cleaning barrel fire easy to put out. Fires dont happen too offten but once in a while :}
I can see why they would have their own hazmat team..but if you guys where the ones putting out the fires..I would demand more hazmat training..at least enough to get you up to Operations level..you guys barely have Awareness level. You don't have to be Technicians if your company already has a team. The thing about the Operations level is that it gives you the training to know what you are getting yourself into before you do. With that amount of training you guys have now. You might be putting out a fire one day and then find out when the Hazmat team or local firedepartments hazmat team gets there that you are into some serious shit.
Just my .02 for what I have experience out in the field. Ask some questions of you supervisors and hazmat team. It may save your ass some day.
Shredz
You are 1 billion % right
The whole thing is a joke its all for show and it pisses me off.
Even security is weak as all hell. Ive bitched and complained and nothing will get done its all about money. The plant makes 1.5 million a day that its 100% operational. They are the biggest tight wads
It will bight them in the ass one day. It always does!!
I'm an EMT. Mom always said not to play with fire, but I never listened to her anyway...lol
