What's with the pointless threads of late?

Is it generally okay, to start a thread about anything on this forum, no matter now defunct the discussion possibility of a thread can be?

Often here we have a few political threads locked because people get a little passionate about the subject, but in some ways this can be a good thing as it shows people care, it shows the topic has huge discussion probability and it's generally over something quite important.

Yet we have a thread today on "how you wipe your ass" and another thread on "do you eat your boogers".

And these threads are allowed to stay open? Enter the 2008 Noob era..

Atleast there's something here to look at and have a laugh at.
I look in other sectoins mostly but when theres nothing happenin i just come to the lounge.
If we were serious all the time we'd be a boring bunch...

Im just saying, far more "colourful" threads have been closed while complete garbage remains open.

I've been wondering the same thing. Many of these threads would be amusing to my 12 year old son, but I fail to see why an adult would even consider such things, much less post a thread about it.

I'm not saying it should be against the rules, and I'm not saying there is anything wrong with being a big kid (just look in my garage). I'm saying there is something not quite right about wanting to know how another man wipes his ass or picks his nose. Maybe it's just me.

Heres the things this area is supposed to be the lounge and in the lounge you can talk about almost anything you want within reason as long as it is titled correctly.... BUT.... if it gets out of hand or gets to a place that members complain then it hast to go... politics and religon just happen to be the two things that people will never agree on... hence if you do not like the title do NOT open it...

for instance if you are for obama and know you are opening a thread about him... look to be offended or not like what you read... answer to that is open a thread praising him or giving your views... but no need to post on a thread and be negative and end up in an arguement... easy fix and the thread stays open...

problem is people get carried away... example... the ass thread(no nudity) started out great... then all it took was one person getting carried away and then we have bathing suits next its thongs then nudes and then everyone thinks ok I will slip one up as well and they follow suit and before you know it someone complains and well we delete it... now there was nothing wrong with it to start with but it got out of hand...

anyway that explains why its ok to have threads titles "how you wipe your ass" and "do you eat your boogers".

oh and just dont open them if you dont like the titles

btw not that I agree with all of the titles but that is the reason for them...

Although I must point out, that there have been many threads about religion and politics lately that contained absolutely no arguing by anyone. All of the posts were agreeing with the original thread starter, yet many of those post not only got closed, but were deleted so no one could read them.

That has not been done by admin... the only ones I have found... but by the original thread starter... which is up to them...

unless they are out of hand we do not delete them... I will check into this farther... if someone has a link to one that is closed yet was not out of hand please post it....

I had one deleted that I obviously can't link you towards since it was deleted. It was titled "Obamas Lies" and gave about 40 documented and linked facts about him. There was no arguing at all in the thread and just about everyone that posted made positive comments about the facts presented. The next day it was not only closed but deleted.

I received a PM from admin saying "Your thread has been deleted. We are not allowing lies or smears of either candidate posted on the board. There is no truth to the thread you posted."

Yet they were all documented facts. And even if they were false or opinionated (which they were not), every thread in the miscelleneous section contains opinions. So I am confused by this.

i started the booger thread. it's not meant to be taken as a serious interest in how people manage their boogers, it's for people with a sense of humor; it's somewhat monty python-esque; and yes, if you read the responses you can tell there are people who appreciate that sense of humor and don't take it seriously.

i agree, if someone is uptight about it just don't open the thread. having the lounge is a good idea to allow some silliness. i'd argue allowing oneself to express a child-like sense of humor tongue-in-cheek is a sign of maturity; getting all miffed about people having a good laugh over silly topics is more childish.

passion is one thing.. when a person disagrees with what another is saying and resorts to calling them an idiot, or moron.. that's flaming..

Thanks for taking the time with that reply Admin and you are correct, that the subjects you do mention do get heated because no1 will ever see eye to eye on that matter. No I didn't go into "How do you wipe your ass" or the "How do you eat your boogers" threads, but I still wonder how threads like this survive. I think it's because some forums I visit, while very well run, have strict "if it doesn't have discussion potential, it gets closed", so it should be testamont to how open minded this site is. Not so long ago there was a porn thread, it failed, but the point was it was tested out.

Yeah, while im a staunch believer in speaking about the important issues in life, flaming that borders on racism should not be tolerated.

As War4BTT who thinks it's ironic that I made a Thread about Pointless Threads, one, I don't believe it is pointless seeing as one of the Admins himself addressed an issue, two, valid points were made on why certain threads do get closed, so be thankful you get to keep yours open no matter what I or others may think of is, and four, if it was pointless why did you post in it? I didn't post in yours.

OK in checking that thread was actually closed due to several reasons and yes arguing was one of them... politics often ends that way... and we do get rid of them if they will cause flaming and arguing...

Yes and the porn thread would have still been up if the rules had been followed... but someone put up pictures of an ex girlfrien to be mean and she got wind of it and holy hell broke out.... so there you go... perfect example of why things get deleted or closed....

the political threads are closed due to bias. it doesnt take a genious to figure that out. i do agree though that things here should try to be on an adult level, but all of us need a laugh sometimes
