Do they know you're a beginner?

Call other trainers in the area pretending to be a prospective client and find out the going rate.

Full Spectrum Fitness? What are you, like the prism of the fitness world? Are you gonna massage my sore glutes after a monster squat session? I'd buy that for a dollar!!

Guys at my gym charge $35 per half hour and $60 per hour. They'll drop the prices somewhat if you want 10 - 30 sessions, but not much.

the going rate is a formula based on size and bodyfat, the bigger and leaner you are the more you charge.

    Personal training is bullshit.

Get out of this industry as soon as you can.

You'll quickly realize why shortly after you start.

Im sorry u think that but here. Where I live. In California its not bullshit because people are trying to increase their health and well being. Im sorry its a bullshit industry from your point of view. BTW my friends make more than 5k a month working 4 days a week. and has very good clients who he is showing great results in body re-composition. he charges $125 a session and does about 4 a day. so thanks for your input but it really didnt have much relevance to the question i asked.

Your friend is very rare. Yes there are successful trainer but a huge % more arent. Most successful trainers dont train in a gym. They have their own studio. Also most successful trainers don't even train anymore. The yrun the business and have trainer that work for them. I've been in the industry for years. I'M glad its not your career choice. Atomini is correct

Yes, exactly. I've been in this industry long enough (yet thankfully it's not a career choice for me) to know that it really just leads to frustration. The only way you get anywhere, as you said, is by rising up to the management level. And if you're a manager, you're not even a trainer anymore. I hear trainers all the time tell me they'd love to make it career and rise up to the management position... but at that point, like I said, you're not even a trainer anymore. You're better off just getting a degree in business and becoming a manager in a small company.

Oh how the world is so decieving.

And you have been personal training for how long?

Anywhere you go to do personal training, you'll always feel like a car salesman.

Sorry to burst your bubble, dude, but I feel it's best to let you know of the dirty dark side to this industry that you won't be able to see before you actually get into it. Don't worry, my friend, you have a long ways to go before realizing it. EVERY career, job, hobby, etc. comes with a dirty dark side that nobody sees because they've got some extremely passionate romantic view in their heads before they start doing it. And that's fine... so long as you're not being naive about it and you know the truth prior to engaging in your select passion.

I couldn't help but notice that you ask for a lot of opinions and advise, and 9 times out of 10 you end up being rude to the people that give their opinions or advise.... Not a good way to go about things IMHO

So why are you not talking to them about what to charge etc but come here?

Atomini is probably correct, most trainers are morons and don't make the crazy money your friends do.

    Lol this thread is funny...

Anyway, AJ, they're are some trainers in my gym that charge 60$ an hour. Most give like 3 or 4 free ones then start charging...

I teach BJJ/MMA ... I wonder if i could make a lil more if i starting personal training too...

I only charge roughly 125$ a month for BJJ and 170 for both MMA/BJJ.

You won't make dick. I thought I would get my cert and do it while in school. Worked at a Power House and everything and still made jack shit. Unless you are an established trainer with some high class clients for your area you are not going to do anything. Majority of trainers that work at gyms are looked at as jokes. Your clientel will be the elderly, who may be regualrs for a while, and then the out of shape moms who do it for about a month then say f'it.

The only way to make money is to open a facility that strictly does training.

sounds like someone couldnt keep clients maybe if they saw results in a month you'd still have them as clients

Bottom line, you are only worth what you ask...I would NOT start out like them, for you its all about building your client base and reputation. There are no shortcuts to an extremely successful business...you get out what you put in.

You suffer not making much money at first but once you are established, then come the rewards.

If your good, know your stuff and have a decent personality you will do fine. The biggest thing is showing people the value of your service. I train part time, I fight an uphill battle because most people see trainers as jackass's. I practically only train special populations, its were my interest are and I can design a program very easily. I say charge what you want, if your doing things right. Word of mouth will get you all the business you need.
