What Gives Muscles That Hard Look?
can this be obtained naturally ???? is this genetics how do you get them to look hard? how can you get them to actually be hard? just wondering

Muscle Tone, there is always residual nervous input to the muscles to keep them ready and to help maintain joint stability. This means that at all times some of the muscle fibers are contracting. The amount of motor units recruited changes with trained individuals. With training this nervous tone increases, as someone becomes detrained the neural tone decreases.

Also I think that like... a 35 year old's quads will be harder and denser looking than a 20 year olds... for whatever reason, just cause it's been built up over a longer period of time, this may be related to the "nervous tone"... not really sure though.

i think the heavier you train the more denser and hard your muscles are gonna look.

Yeh honestly this is something I've always suspected but never put a name to before.
I'm one of those people who is always playing with my muscles, literally all day. Not flexing really but just tightening them up because it feels good. I can get a pump going without even being in the gym.
And sometimes I notice doing that enough all day I actually feel at the end of the day like I worked out twice.

Yeah its called by a few different names in the exercise literature. The theory is all the same and is something that can actually be measured in real time. If I hooked you up to an EMG machine even when you sleep i would still see some electrical activity in the form of muscle fibers contracting and measuring the electrical activity associated with it.
