Stupid d-bags
I just spent about 30 minutes with a newer member at the gym I go to helping him understand and construct a diet. After getting to know what he has available to eat, what he likes to eat and what he can afford to eat we had a 6 meal plan that was ready to get his chunky arse in shape. I also got his cardio in check because the dude seemed serious and had no idea what he was doing with anything. After all was said and done he said "I don't think I can follow a diet like that. I'm going to just stick to zero carbs and see where that takes me."
...I don't work at my gym or get paid for consulting. I was just trying to help out someone because I overheard them talking about their HORRIBLE plan of attack.

on the bright side you said he has a chunky arse
it will most likely stay that way
your karma is improved and his body is not

He's one of those chunky dudes that still lifts a good amount of weight so he thinks he's ripped. Everyone knows those type.

well atleast you tried. it's hard to get something through somebodys head when they think they know everything.

The funny thing was is that he admitted to not knowing anything about a good diet but then wouldn't take logical advice. I told him if he wanted to follow something other than what I said he shouldn't cut out carbs completely so I suggested him buying the Body For Life book.

I find that when I am able to give advice to someone for the sake of doing my part, and not for the sake of them accepting or implementing it, there are less bodies to count. I used to hold a grudge when someone shook it off so carelessly. then I realized it has nothing to with me. I spend the same amount of time with them that I would have if they took the advice, only the rewards are different. My reward is based on the fact that I did my part, not on whether they do thiers. It can suck to have someone waste your time, but it doesn;t have to. Hope that doesn't sound too Oprah?

That would thoroughly irritate me.
6 months from now if you see him say,
"Hey buddy. You're really starting to fill out there, mostly in the third chin and underarm area, looks good on you, how's that whole, no carb thing goin..."
And then punch him in the nose...

I have been down this road 5 times exactly.
I only now tell people to write down what they eat and use fitday.
If they can use fitday for a week, they kinda start to teach themselves and then I will start to help them. This has worked for the last person that asked me questions. She looks great now!
Anyways F that guy. I hate it when you know everything they need to know and they are know it alls and don't listen.

Atleast you made an honest effort to try and help him out. A lot of people don't waste their time with people like that. I look at it this way- Even if he retained 10% of what you told him, he is still better off than he was before.

oh shit
man, o man o man o man.
i dont lift as much as some guys in my gym - but my body and progress is 100x what they'll ever see..... and i don't lift INSANE amounts, because i think form is VERY very important.... i could lift more, but i'd have to sacrifice form to do it, no thx
they have said a few times "you should lift more, you can, i lift more than you"
they strut around like they are AMAZING..
yet, they are DISGUSTINGLY fat "power lifters"..my ass....
their form is horrible, their diets suck ass, and they critisize me? lolololol..funny
im the one who lost 103lbs in fat, and gaining muscle like a tank.... (i did get one huge compliment tonight from a guy i havnt seen there in 3 months or so..made me feel fantastic).
dont worry about him stone - you kick ass
