    Polygraph!!

I know theirs alot of pro-steroid cops out there. Just wondering how many of you have had to do a polygraph test either before you got employed with your detachment, or while you were employed? Or if a majority got their foot in the door before they started to implement the polygraph into their recruiting process.

honest within reason... about drugs i was about 70 percent honest, about criminal past i was about 80% honest.....

the one question i was asked both times were about illegal uses of force, and lied both times. one time i was told their was deceptition with my answer, so i replied

"i was in iraq during the invasion, and stayed for the first year of the war, there was alot i saw i agree and dis-agree about, but that has nothing to do with who i am now"

Which was true, but had nothing to really do with my deception. truth is once he asked the question the picture of my friend hitting an inmate wouldn't leave my head... but none the less the grader through the question out..

Well i can tell you that in Illinois if you are taking a polygraph for pre-employment you do not need to worry about the steroid questions popping up. just the obvious, Marijuana cocaine and prescription drugs. I can tell you this though. some other cops that you may work with are HATERS and will ratt you out as soon as they get a chance especially if you are good at what you do. if you used before and continue to then now is the time to keep it a secret MORE THAN EVER unless you want to have a meeting with the police commission and face a drug test.

I never personally did this, but my brother passed the state police poly when they asked about steroids.

I didn't think they would be concerned with steroids here either, but in Canada i finished the Pre-polygraph questionaire, and sure enough it asks about steroids. Luckily from what I hear when they do the drug testing they don't actually test for steroids, so its really just the polygraph i have to worry about.

I was thinking that if I get called out on it about being deceptive I'm going to claim that I used a pro-hormone once, before they were considered illegal and that this is the only reason i can see why the machine would of thought i was being deceptive, even though I've never taken prohormones, seems like the only reasonable answer they would accept

that worked for a buddy of mine that took a poly.

i left it to go into networking.. i love law enforcement, i really liked teaching new recruits and i enjoyed every moment of going to work... i worked in it for around 4.5-5 years and taught for about 2 of them.

but when i got all my certs and school done with computers and networking. i got a job working in that field (which i also enjoy) that doubled my pay. and with a family i couldn't turn down the masive raise, and more time at home.

but to anybody thinking about law enforcement, in any level of it, its one of the best careers out there.

to people asking about deception, all your questions will be asked to you before you start. and when your on the polygraph its only yes or no answers... they will ask you to write a statement afterwards if what you told them and your test don't match...

simple rule, be as honest as you can be up front when they ask you. so that way when you are on the polygraph they already know your yes and no answers will be alittle off..

i admitted to smoking weed as a teenager... i admitted to stealing and having to do community service.. 99% of departments don't care about your past, as long as in past we are talking 5+ years. nobody wants somebody that was smoking weed last week.

I have never heard of anyone having to answer the steroid question but I assume most of us would be f'd. I would love to take a poly and see what I could get away with
