    Chew gum when you train?

I'm wondering how many people chew gum when they train. I know some people must have gum, I don't think I've ever trained while chewing gum.

I do when I'm cutting and limiting my carbs. It seems to give me an extra boost, but no way I could do them while squatting or deadlifting heavy.

I always try to brush my teeth before heading to the gym so that when my spotter is helping me, I dont make him throw up with my bad breath. But the few times I didn't get a chance to, I popped a piece of breath freshening gum in my mouth when entering the gym. But after a few sets, I feel like Im either going to choke on it, or spit it out at an inopportune time.

    Doesnt work well for me.

    I do,

Especially doing cardio, gives me somthing to focus on.

Training is about the only time I chew gum.

I do when I remember to.
It relieves some of the stress that builds in the jaw when lifting, or at least that's what it feels like.

Always chew gum, helps boost my test gives me a better workout. I got gum with creatine in it to pump me up with some legal steroids as well. Put in the best workouts ever, was able to pump out about 20 sets of different curls to hit both heads.

I chew gum everyday, and everytime I workout. Not saying it helps with anything, but I like my mouth to be superfresh daily. With all the food I eat, and only brushing 3-4x a day, there has to be a mid way freshness. If you never talk to women, I could see why you wouldn't need any.

It stops me grinding my teeth, I put it between my teeth and clench. Maybe dumb theory but it helps me focus rather than think 'fvck if I bite any harder my teeth will crumble'

No gum, but toothpicks by the box. They provide more cushioning when gritting/clenching teeth.

why dont you use a mouthpiece. All of the guys in my gym use them now. Theyre all copying off this one buff guy who always uses one.

I am a gum chewer (not the open mouth noisy kind thats fvckn annoyn) so yeh I chew it at school, gym, everywhere.

And yeh at the gym it helps cushion my teeth too, I grind my teeth at night (im like a german sheperd) and a mouth piece would make me look like an idiot.
I also notice what DMS said about it not being good, I get weird sharp pains in my teeth every once and a while, prob just a cavity or some shit forming

    That's called Bruxism.

It's like Marxists who practice Marxism, you practice Bruxism, and that make you a Bruxist.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bruxism
Bruxism (from the Greek βρυγμός (brugmós), gnashing of teeth) is the grinding of the teeth, and is typically accompanied by the clenching of the jaw. It is an oral parafunctional activity that occurs in most humans at some time in their lives. In most people, bruxism is mild enough not to be a health problem; however, 25% of people suffer from significant bruxism that will become symptomatic. [1] While bruxism may be a diurnal or nocturnal activity [2], it is nocturnal bruxism which causes the majority of health issues, and can even occur during short naps. Bruxism is one of the most common sleep disorders. [3]

    Definition

Bruxism is the medical term for grinding, gnashing or clenching your teeth. The condition affects both children and adults.
Some people with bruxism unconsciously clench their teeth together during the day, often when they feel anxious or tense. This is different from tooth grinding or clenching that occurs at night, which is called sleep bruxism. Most children who are bruxists do so at night, while adults are either daytime or nighttime bruxists.
Bruxism may be mild and may not even require treatment. However, it can be frequent and severe enough to lead to jaw disorders, headaches, damaged teeth and other problems. Unfortunately, people with sleep bruxism usually aren't aware of the habit, so they aren't diagnosed with the condition until complications occur. That's why it's important to know the signs and symptoms of bruxism and to seek regular dental care.

Thats really interesting, never heard of it.
Its not rare to wake up with the sides of my jaw (like where it connect to your skull I guess) being sore and I'll rub them in the morning.

And yeh I do also do it when I'm anxious. Glad to see its actually somewhat common though.
