Define a Mod

What makes a Mod, what makes a good Mod and what exactly should a Mod do?

Im asking this, because with the exception of a few places, some sites are shockingly run. The internet is NOT A DEMOCRACY, so whether you like Mods or not, they are a necessary evil. Unless you personally own your own site, you cannot do anything you want on the net. I personally think this site is very well run with some exceptional Mods, but I think the difference here is that the Mods are firm but fair compared to other places. I don't think they are impartial or biased or play favourites, and the Mods here actually seem to have a personality.

I guess I got off track a bit, but what is the "unofficial" role of a Mod?

I think the term "Mod" here is a bit different. I guess we have several different layers of Mods and thats what makes this place special.

The Mod with most power is anyone with a userid that has Admin in it. They have super power and can ban and delete at will but usually they only ban after consultation or recommendation of lower level mods, but not always. The lower level mods are called is a Monitor, Vet or HOFR. Admins are paid members of staff and are totally anonymous, all other mods are volunteers. Some HOFR's have the power to delete threads but only an Admin can Ban. Since this system was brought in a couple of years ago this place has rum like clock work. And as you say this place is not a democracy and what ever System_Admin or any other Admin says, go's !!!

Cant remember exactly, about two years ago I think. There were no Admins or Hofrs then. I forget what they were called. But there were a few who were complete cvnts, a mod named swolecat in particular. So one day Brian (the owner) took away all the mods powers and created the new system. A few of them left because they couldnt ban anymore and the good ones stayed and were turned into HOFR's, and we all lived happily ever after

aaahhh...yes. that's exactly who I was thinking of!

Swolecat knew his sht, but everyone would walk around on egg shells hoping not to get banned.

I'm a mod on another site. This site is prolly on par with it in terms of how strict they are. Well this site tends to ban more but also has a lot more traffic.

I believe they were called "Hall Monitors".

There's only one cvnt left.

I truly believe that this forum is run by the best mods in the biz, they dont jump the bandwagon and they look at each party's point of view, when there is a touchy subject any way, plus the annicdotes and stuff are priceless! keep up the good work!

I agree they just gave too much power to the wrong mods and were affraid to take it away when needed. It killed the board imo.

i hated swolecat for that reason. his diet info was awesome but he was a hard headed prick who banned anyone that disagreed with him. the problem with the old style was people like him who banned for no reason. we now have an admin who runs this board and is 100% fair and follows the rules to a T. unlike before people will not be banned now just because they disagree with a mod or argues with one.

No offense to the Admins, but nothing is 100% in a dictatorship. Rules are called as the time sees it.

I was referring to SC, the guy was a cock sucker. And I disagree that the old system was better, particularly with regards to the power to Ban. A few mods got there nickers in a knot when that power was taken away and they have never posted since. just shows how much respect they had for what they were doing

He gave myself and some others some of the best dieting advice and information that I still follow to this day. Around the time he left I hadn't been on here for about 3 months as I was busy as hell and had a bunch of stuff going on so I don't remember exactly why he left or was dismissed but I thought he was an absolute asset.
