Do you stretch?
I'm guilty, in the sense that I never really stretch that much. Prior to cardio, I do, some times on leg day I do but It's never been a priority.
I've never hurt a muscle, if something hurts...that is not suppose to it's normally a joint (shoulder).
I've read a few articles that actually propose that stretching before lifting can actually cause injury easier. Not to the muscle but to the tendons you are stretching. For as long as I can remember I've always been told to stretch to avoid injury though.
I could see how stretching prior to a lift could cause some weakening of the tendon though.
Just curious to what others have found or how often you guys actually take the time to stretch.

I stretch 3 times a day now.....after cardio...after lift....before bed.....trying to fix my knee.....and if you think joints can't be effected by flexibility think again....inflexibility in my hams is what has caused my patella to like to be misaligned in my right leg

stretching prior to cardio is a bad idea. You should only stretch after cardio. Stretching cold muscles is a good way to hurt youself and it doesn't do anything good.

my comment was directed at the OP.
even with a warm up, stretching works much better after strenuous exercise than before and there is no real benifit to before. The idea that stretching before working out prevents muscle pulls is a myth. Stretching after exercise helps to keep muscles loose and helps to disipate lactic acid, so it keeps you from feeling sore and keeps your muscles nice and loose for the NEXT work out.
do what works for you, but IMHO stretching before a work out is as likely to cause an injury as prevent one.

I stretch before and after any exercise and I always warm up at lower weights too. Also in 90's my neighbor was all juiced up taking 3 cc's a week of cypionate for a long time he tells me ah hell you dont need no pct quit taking all those vitamins you dont need that. lol any way to my point, he never stretched either and was squatting 640 and almost lost it all he got some double hernia and messed up his anus too, hemroids. I know its gross but its true so I always stretch because of his, I am a man and dont need to stretch attitude. he learned the hard way but he still wont listen about a pct or the right vitamins. Oh I also do those ab and back machines before every work out, now it may be just in my head but I seem to keep better form and I can lift more in proper form if I do those ab and back work outs.

Warm up with weight before, stretch after.

Yeah not so great, the best thing for a dislocated shoulder especially if you it happened multiple times as far as a warmup is concerned would be to do some sort of active warmup. An arm ergometer, active ROM, ect. Plus you have to hit all those cuff muscles plus the romboids and serratus anterior to keep the shoulder and scapula stable.

I saw a chart at the gym that showed proper and improper stretching technique. All the stretching they teach you in high school was apparently wrong, but any way, I noticed if I don't stretch my triceps they kinda pop and start hurting half way through.
