Ever eat raw beef? I love it
A lot of americans frown on it but steak tartar (raw beef) is a delicacy in most of europe.
What you do is go to a butcher and get yourself some fresh top sirloin or tenderloin. Get it medium ground.
Then take a raw egg yolk, salt, pepper, onions, and whatever other spices you want (I top it off with cayenne pepper too), mix it all together and slather that shit on some rye bread.....
If you go to a good butcher that has experience with how to cut beef for steak tartar and you get fresh beef there's not much risk. Been eating it for years. In fact I am eating it right now. fack this tastes good.

Steak tartare is great stuff. I often order it as an appetizer at steakhouses and French restaurants. Too bad no one would eat any of it with me, and I end up already half stuffed before even getting started on the main course.
Beef carpaccio is good too. As is sashimi made with kobe/wagyu beef!

I read about this dish in a a guy's blog.
He's living in Europe.
That was one of the first meals he had when he got there... and he ate it for a while.
Then one day he noticed a white thread-like thing hanging from his ass while he was taking a dump... and white pieces in the toilet after each dump.
It seems that a parasitic worm, which he'd gotten from the raw delicacy, had grown to full length in his gut... and the white thread was it breaking off, having exceeded the length of his intestines.
I'll pass.

There was a book I saw about eating raw meat and how it was really healing for you. I can't remember the authors name though.

I usually eat it twice a month here in Tokyo at my favorite yakiniku restaurant. It's called "ishiyaki yuke." It's marinated in a little sweet soy, and served with sesame and grated apple. You can top it off with a raw egg and/or Korean chili paste.
I've been eating it for almost 10 years and I'm still parasite free (knock on wood). As long as the meat is fresh and the chef is a pro, raw beef is a go.
My other favorite somewhat dangerous thing to eat is fugu (blowfish). Especially in the summer with a nice bottle of ice-cold dry sake.

I will cook my beef a little bit every time. Something about parasites never really sat with me well.

I like cooking my meat till it is black..

parasites are on the outside of a cut of steak..thats why you can scorch the outside for a few minutes, then have the inside bloody red (not cooked)
so i don't quite see how the handeling of it would change that

Went to a korean restaurant for dinner last night, where we ordered some yukhoe. It's extremely similar to steak tartare except it's made with different spices/sauces/etc. Good stuff!

i agree with nark on this one. why anyone would eat raw beef is beyond me. honestly what is the point? there are way to many risks to outweigh any benifit you may think your gaining

Mad cow and ecoli here we come, no thanks.
I know at some point before fire we use to do it, but I'm also pretty sure the avg lifespan was like 24 years.

Whenever I see someone cooking and I see raw meat, something intrinsic in me causes me to start salivating...the raw meat looks really tasty. But no, never done it and never plan on doing it. If it's a cultural food somewhere, then I'll respect that.
