    math trouble

Im lookn at a treadmill that goes 10mph, doesnt seem that fast. I have ran 2miles in14min and that was me hauln balls for real. Im tryn to compair 10mph to 2miles in 14min how do i break that down???

    k heres how we do:

    2 miles in 14 minutes = 1 mile in 7 minutes

7 minutes divided by 60 minutes is 0.11667 hours (you are running 1 mile every 0.11667 hours)

1 mile divided by 0.11667 hours = 8.57142857 miles per hour

    ?

10mph = 6 min miles, or a minute faster for each mile than you are going now.

2 miles in 14 minutes is slower than 10mph as jigga showed you. some treadmills aren't that accurate on speed, but at 10mph, 2 miles is 12 minutes which is a decent pace. i hate running anything more than a 400m for timed, but i've done 2 miles in around 11 without over exerting myself

I'll even cipher it old school for ya.
    10 miles in 1 hour.
    60 minutes in 1 hour.
In 60 minutes the distance covered is 10 miles.
    Let x = miles
    10x = 60 minutes
Divide both sides by 10 to define "x".
    Therefore x = 6 minutes
    mile/distance covered = 6 minutes

Therefore at a rate of 10mph, you travel 1 mile every 6 minutes.

He asked how to compare the rates of travel so I broke it down via the long route.

Could have set it up as a ratio/proportion problem but in any case I think he's covered.

    Ratio/Proportion:

14/60 = 2/X the relationship being miles over time, obviously x is the unknown, we cross multiply and we get 14x = 120 then we simply solve for x divide both sides by 14 and we get an improper fraction of 60/7 now as this number is not normal used to represent times lets change it to a decimal to make it easier to read our final number being 8.5714 and on and on, rounded to 3 significant figures we get 8.57

    Proportion on board!!!! lol
